Happy Friday everyone! The last few weeks have been busy!!But someone once said that if you’re loving what you’re doing, it doesn’t really feel like work. That someone was right! As I reflect on some of my sessions, I thought I’d share the following: When working with same-sex couples that are trying start a family, I often hear them say, we wish there was a way for both of us to be biological parents. While we wait for science to work this out, it has warmed my heart t...o witness all the beautiful ways gay couples create their families. In some cases, women choose to have one mother provide the egg while the other mother carries the child, creating a connection for both. As for fathers, they sometimes choose to create an embryo using sperm from one father and an egg from a female who is related to the other father, such as a sister. This embryo is then transferred into a gestational carrier of their choice. This method allows both fathers to have a genetic connection to the child. Although these are great options, many couples don’t have these choices, especially when there are other medical barriers such as fertility issues. Decisions made about the child’s genetic makeup are very important. However, what is equally important is knowing that the lack of a genetic tie does not make one any less of a mother or father, inasmuch as a biological tie does not automatically make one a good parent. Families are created in a multitude of ways. All are different and all are beautiful! And no matter how these little miracles find their way into life, their story will always be one that starts with love!! #fertilityfamilyservices #reproductivecounseling #familyplanning #ivfsuccess #gayfamilies #gaymoms #gaydads #family #ivfjourney #ivf #fertility #eggdonation #spermdonation #surrogacy #baby #ttc #tryingtoconceive #ttccommunity #mentalhealth

Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the fertility community and has changed the world in such immeasurable ways. But even in the midst of this pandemic, we see acts of kindness and compassion all around, reminding us that this world is, in fact, still a beautiful place. I’d like to share the special story of a surrogate who recently delivered a baby boy Due to various travel issues, the baby’s mother, who lived internationally, was unable to arrive in advance. Althou...gh she eventually made it, she wasn’t able to get inside the hospital as she wasn’t here long enough for the required 14-day quarantine prior to her baby’s arrival. Sadly, she did not get to witness the birth of her first child. During the next few days following the birth, her surrogate informer her that she’d be willing to care for the baby in the mother’s absence and was quickly granted temporary medical power of attorney to do so. Although mom wasn’t able to be with her baby at this time, she was comforted by the kindness and care her surrogate showed her baby during the precious first few days of life. Fortunately, the surrogate and the baby were discharged at the same time and she happily transitioned the baby over to his mother for the first time right outside of the hospital. When we spoke about this experience, this amazing surrogate expressed, I was happy to take care of this life that I grew for 9-months..it gave me the perfect closure. Surrogate is now back home wirh her husband and children and has continued to supply pumped milk for the baby. One day, this child will know that he came into this world in the most uncertain and unusual circumstances. But more importantly, I hope he knows how very special he is, as two women who were once complete strangers pulled together to create and nurture this miracle of life. #happyendings #surrogacy #mentalhealth #womenhelpingwomen #ivf #tryingtoconceive #fertilityfamilyservices #hope #infertility #infertilityawareness #family #ttctribe #ttccommunity #babies #gestationalcarrier

A good reminder for National Infertility Awareness Week!! Thinking of you all, especially during these difficult times! Going through egg donation is not an easy decision for most women. But the desire to become a parent and to love a child is the powerful force which enables them to go through this incredible journey. In a recent meeting with a women who will soon have a daughter through egg donation, we discussed how she plans on informing her child about her conception and genetic origins. This mother-to-be is creating a special storybook for her baby. The story will be about a fairy who brought them a very special egg and this will be the start of many further discussions. #happyendings #fertilityfamilyservices #eggdonation #fertilityjourney #journeytoparenthood #baby #motherhood #pregnancy #ivfjourney #ivfsuccess #ttc #disclosure #familybuilding #infertility #infertilityawareness
