CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF WATER FLUORIDATION! It was 1945 when the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan added fluoride (a naturally occurring mineral in rocks and soil) to the city’s drinking water. Five years later the local schoolchildren were found to have significantly fewer cavities, and one of the most significant public health achievements led to a nationwide reduction in the prevalence of dental decay. Fluoride works by strengthening enamel that has been weakened many of the foods we eat. The weakened tooth enamel takes in the fluoride and makes teeth more resistant to cavities. Have a glass of water and protect your teeth!

STAYING AT HOME = MORE SNACKING = MORE CAVITIES. As kids return for their routine check-ups and cleanings, we are seeing a lot more cavities. Kids are snacking frequently throughout the day (grazing). While choosing a healthy snack is important (avoid sticky, starchy and sugary items), non-stop nibbling increases the risk for tooth decay. Schedule snack time and stick to the routine!

Routine appointments can now be scheduled for kids. Don't delay in calling us for a check-up and cleaning. Those twice-a-year visits are super important. We can identify cavities in the early stages and possibly prevent bigger problems later!

The waiting room may be a little empty (only one patient at a time) and smell like disinfectant, but we are back to scheduling routine appointments! Just don’t be alarmed when we take your temperature as you come inwe are following all the recommended safety guidelines.

WE ARE STILL HERE FOR EMERGENCIES. We frequently disinfect all treatment areas (as we normally would do), but we also made a few changes: Everyone is wearing a mask during the appointment process from checking in to checking out. Families will be scheduled so there is no overlap in the waiting room. If you call and we are not there, leave a message or contact Dr. Sosa via the emergency number.
