FilAm musician and YouTube influencer AJ Rafael recently paid a visit to Delano to add authenticity and vibe to his latest project. Rafael is working alongside TheaterWorksUSA, an Off-Broadway New York-based theater for young and family audiences, to create a music video about Larry Itliong. AJ and his crew, Charles Uy, Nicanor Evans, & Devon Nelwan, visited Delano to learn more about Larry Itliong’s legacy and rightful place in history. The release date of the video has not ...been set, but watch out for it around early March on TheaterWorksUSA’s YouTube Channel and AJ Rafael’s social media platforms. Shooting was conducted at Agbayani Village, the Itliong gravesite and Filipino Community Hall. Arleen Villaruz-Gonzalez and daughter Aubrey hosted them for an adobo lunch. The shoot attracted Itliong's daughter Patty Serda (white jacket), who was excited her dad was being recognized to a whole new audience. Thank you, AJ, Charles, Nicanor and Devon. Looking forward to the finished product. AJ’s YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/ajrafael

When there was a strike, the Manongs willingly went along. When you live in a room for 20 years or so and don’t see much of a future, a little bit of a raise and some benefits would help The mentality of the Manongs is: Anything is better than what we have now. Roger Gadiano Celebrate the leadership of Larry Itliong, Pete Velasco, Mariano Bob Armington for their courage and commitment 55 years ago today to say enough is enough. https://www.history.com//delano-grape-strike-united-farm-w

Filipino American National Historical Society/Delano Chapter 24.11.2020

Dear Family, Friends and Community, It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Manang Dolores Ann Velasco. This evening we received word by a post on the UFW website (link and text below). Thank you for all of those, who were able to send a card or note of comfort to Manang Dolores at the hospital in Tehachapi. Our family asks for your prayers that Manang Dolores' soul rest in eternal peace as she is reunited with her loving husband, Peter... Velasco. Manong Peter Gines Velasco, longtime Filipino American community and labor leader, co-founder and secretary/treasurer of the United Farm Workers, met Manang Dolores in Baltimore in 1974 when he was Boycott Director in Maryland. They married in 1975 at Agbayani Village at Forty Acres, UFW Headquarters in Delano, CA. Together, they both dedicated their lives to the UFW and the farmworker movement. Manong Pete passed away in 1995. Until her passing, Manang Dolores shared his stories to keep his memory and legacy of service alive. With every opportunity, she would share the struggles that he and the Manongs endured and the sacrifices they made so that future generations would have a better life. We feel blessed to have spent time with Manang Dolores with our family on our road trips to visit her at La Paz and for various anniversary celebrations of the Delano Grape Strike and Agbayani Village at Forty Acres over the past twenty years. We are deeply grateful to her for always eagerly receiving the students and community folks we would introduce to her. We will cherish the talks we had, the stories she shared, and most especially the memory of how loving, caring and supportive she was of our family and our collective efforts to keep the legacy of our Manongs alive. Her memory will live in our hearts, and through our work in the community, forever. May she rest in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon her. Love, The Pulido Family (Mark, Glo, Malia and Mark Jr.)
