Congratulations to the team of Michelle Chang and Ethan Idnani, western regional winners in the 29th annual ExploraVision program the largest K-12 science competition designed to build problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Michelle and Ethan’s project focused on developing possible mechanisms for a new treatment for pancreatic cancer by engineering a liposome that could potentially reduce side effects and lower the probability of relapse. As part of their Capstone Project, Sebastian G., Zhouhui L., Jan Jie Tsai L., and Yi-Siang S., seniors in the Fairmont Preparatory Academy International Business Program, have partnered with the Anaheim Hills Rotary to spearhead the club’s first virtual Bark in the Park fundraiser. Fairmont's Got Spirit This past week our students at Fairmont Preparatory Academy and Fairmont Schools - San Juan Capistrano hosted their first Pep Rally in more than a year! We could not be more proud at their attention to detail and safety to ensure these events brought a sense of normalcy back at our campuses. ... Fairmont’s Athletic Academy is paving the way for middle school elite athletes to receive training, conditioning, and sports-specific skill-building all during the course of their regular school day. The program combines our award-winning academics with world-class training powered by our partner, The Treigning Lab. One of the most effective keys to unlocking student potential may actually be tied to a relatively simple concept tapping into the student’s mindset, or the established set of attitudes that he or she believes about themself. A student who holds a fixed mindset might say, I’m not very smart, so I’ll never understand this, while a student with a growth mindset might respond, If I keep working and look at this from several different angles, I’ll eventually figure it out.... Students who subscribe to a growth mindset lean toward embracing challenges, persisting in the face of setbacks, seeing effort as a path to mastery, learning from feedback, and finding lessons and inspiration in the success of others. So just how do educators get students to internalize this way of thinking? How can they develop a growth mindset for kids? Red Ribbon Week | 2020

Distance learning has been challenging for all of us but my daughter’s teacher has been so supportive, said Magz Agulto-Man. Her lesson plans are very thoughtful and it is obvious that she carefully considers each student’s learning level when creating her daily grids. She is always available and ready to help when my daughter gets stuck on a lesson and she is able to quickly build the confidence she needs to persevere through a new or challenging lesson. Now more than ev...er, Fairmont’s community is looking to our teachers for support, care, and answers. We want to thank all of our teachers for their tireless work, swift adoption of new technology, and dedication to their students through this unprecedented time. Not only have they risen to the occasion, they’ve surpassed any bar we could have set. AND! Thank you parents - and our whole #fairmontfamily - for sharing your experiences with us. We are so appreciative of your comments. An important component of serving their overall needs is providing opportunities to nurture their physical health during their time on campus. Our food services partner, NMS, offers a high quality lunch program which allows us to do just that (you’ll even find a fruit and vegetable serving included with each day’s selection). We love partnering with Nutrition Management Services (NMS) to provide a high quality ...lunch program to our Fairmont community. Their delicious, well-balanced lunches and snacks are a hit with students and staff alike. NMS follows all of the proper protocols and guidelines in food safety and handling. The breadth of opportunities for our students keeps expanding. Fairmont Athletic Academy, serving middle school student-athletes at our Fairmont Schools - San Juan Capistrano Campus, has recently added a wrestling program to its offerings! We are thrilled to announce the hiring of Coach Mark Muñoz who will oversee the program. ...
