RECRUITING SENIOR VOLUNTEER TUTORS AND MONITORS! Great News! ECBA is rapidly expanding, which means there is a strong need for senior volunteers. Our program aims to increase child literacy rates by connecting older adults with not yet fluent readers in grades K-3. You can volunteer as a reading tutor or a monitor depending on your interest. There is no experience necessary to volunteer for our program as we provide all the training and support. Tutoring sessions are currentl...y online, which means you can participate from the comfort of your own home and choose to go back to in-person tutoring when it is safe. If you or anyone you know might be interested in a senior volunteer position, please fill out the interest form from the link below or contact: Sandra Strang [email protected] Office: (415) 464-1767 Cell: (415) 519-6189 https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx
This quote by #martinlutherkingjr speaks to why we find it so important to implement social and emotional learning into our tutoring structure. In addition to literacy practice, students engage in reflection and creative discussion during tutoring sessions. These conversations between student and tutor help foster valuable relationships. How do you think early education can promote critical thinking and character growth today? Comment below #BlackHistoryMonth #promoteliteracy #ECBA
It is a challenging time in education, but our volunteer tutors have stepped up, and committed their time to young students around the Bay Area. Check out how our adaptable volunteers are relieving some of the stress for teachers.
Best practices in literacy tutoring promote the importance of a consistent, well-defined session structure. Our model includes a defined tutoring session structure, the main purpose of which is to provide targeted practice in skills critical to comprehension and overall reading. The core ECBA program focuses on fluency.
We would like to thank Russell Sunshine for giving us a shout out in his blog: Agile Aging. ECBA is passionate about enriching the lives of seniors, which is why we are excited to bring his work to your feed. Agile Aging is a platform for older adults to connect and share their opinions with each other. Its posts and discussion offer new perspectives on how to navigate life while aging and highlight various volunteer opportunities and other ways seniors can stay engaged in the community. Check it out! https://agileaging.net/
