Customer came in with a studder/hesitation at stops. No check engine light on. Quite pronounced. Wrote an estimate and vehicle was left with me to figure it out. Early morning it ran fine, until it got over 100 degrees and only then. Verified this with back to back hot days with cool mornings. Coming back on the freeway from the next town over all hell broke loose. ABS light, trac light, 'service steering' system message , and 'brake' lamp all came on at the same time. ... Drove to shop, hooked up scan tool and couldn't communicate with the ABS module. To make a long story short I tapped into the hi speed CAN lines and saw the glitch. Coincided with hiccup too. A lot more testing revealed that the coil pack was causing all of the issues. New one solved all issues. Kept it a second day and same, whether hot or cold. Confirmed fix w/ follow up call to customer 3 days later. This stuff is not easy.

I get calls all the time about diagnosis. Some tell me that they had their vehicle worked on at a shop for hundreds of dollars and still have the same problem, to 'Autozone said I need injectors' based on the code they retrieved. I also get people calling me saying that my brother/husband/friend did a diagnosis and read X code. He put Y part in but it still has the same problem. I tell people I charge our shop rate for diagnosis, which is $110/hr. Most check engine lights ...I can figure out in an hour, some take 2. I rarely get a follow up call when I tell them this. I get it. People have that all mighty dollar screaming in their ear saying "SAVE ME SAVE ME!!!". So, they go the cheapest option they can, and usually spend 3 times as much money. Sometimes a hell of a lot more if the previous repairs have done damage. I can save you a ton of money, but I don't work for free.

Last week a first time customer dropped off her car for an oil change. Before she left I told her I would check the spare since she is going on a long trip. Performed the oil change and lo and behold found no spare tire. By design this one doesn't have it. Does have a small air compressor. Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards make car mfg. make their vehicle save gas to meet their quota %. So, one way is to reduce the weight of the vehicle, any way they can. The less th...e vehicle weighs, the less gas it uses. Although the vehicle does save gas, it is but a mere fraction, and the means do not justify the ends. Almost guaranteed to have some form of tire problem, be it a screw in the tread, or something catastrophic to where the tire has to be replaced, right then and there. My advice, be it as it may, is to get a spare tire kit for your vehicle that doesn't have it. This way you are not at the mercy of the tire shop forcing you to by a tire right then and there.

Hi: Been a while since I have posted anything to my page. Life took an unexpected turn and has kept most business related things at bay. The shop is closed more often these days taking care of some deep personal issues. Family has always been first.... We are so much more than a dollar. We find out how precious time is when it is too late. In the past 3 months my outlook on life has drastically changed. The things that were so upsetting, and pressing are not near as dire as I thought they used to be. I am sorry that I am leaving out some details, but it is my personal life that I don't like to really share on social media. I don't exactly know when the next sharp turn in life will be. Life does this from time to time. Everybody has their own story. You never know what the person in front of you has gone thru in their life. We have a pretty nice car in for some repairs. Nice ticket for us. A lot of maintenance items. Nothing too detrimental. As with any first time visit we performed an extensive courtesy inspection, and found that the tires are pretty worn, to the point that they are separated which can cause an accident if they give. If you are not trained this can be missed, but this is not my first rodeo. We do not know the mindset nor the financial status of the customer so we are going to tell them about any costly safety issue before doing something major. Yes, this might not be good for business, as the customer might not be able to afford both repairs and just do the tires for right now, but I rather save a customers life instead of forcing them to commit to the repairs AND the tire issue.

Rodent damage (squirrel!). Major. 2 wiring looms and a bulkhead pad. Picture doesn't show all. To replace the looms and pad you have to drop the engine and transmission, front grille and bumper then remove things from the engine. I will buy some Caspian tape but will look at other options. Been toying with the idea to make a Caspian spray.
