Dental Tips Fall menus are being released and they are extremely tempting. As the temperatures drop we begin to crave mood boosting foods such as desserts, sugary drinks, warm pasta, pies and pancakes. We say, Indulge a little. However, it is important to make better choices and safeguard your teeth from the sugary aftermath. Check out the tips below to protect your teeth. Not all sweets are created equal Stay away from sticky gummies, dried fruit or hard candies ...that remain in your mouth for longer periods of time. Choose sweets that can be quickly washed away with your saliva or fluids. Chocolate is a GREAT choice. Also, choose desserts that contain Xylitol as a sweetener. Due to its basic nature, Xylitol is a natural sugar that fights the bacteria that causes cavities. Xylitol is also diabetic friendly in addition to containing zero calories. Snack once a day Try limiting your snacks to just once a day instead of multiple times daily. When you eat the pH balance of your mouth is shifted, this creates an acidic environment. An acidic environment encourages the progression of bacterial growth and tooth decay. Eat more satisfying meals When you eat more satisfying meals you are less hungry and less likely to want that extra piece of pie. Go ahead and say, "yes" to another scoop of broccoli cheese casserole You won’t regret it. Drink plenty of water By increasing your water intake you fill up your stomach and tend to be less hungry.
