2021 GRADUATIONS AND PROMOTIONS: Our schools have begun discussions and planning efforts for end of year graduations and promotions, which will be in-person now that Orange County is in the Orange Tier (see charts below for a few exceptions). While graduations and promotions are planned to be in-person, with speeches and performances, there will be COVID-19 safety precautions in place. ... Hello Eagles! Estancia High School will continue to be on a Hybrid In-Person Instruction schedule the week of April 5 - 9. The Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education is looking for a Student Board Member to represent Estancia High School for the 2021-2022 school year. The Student Board Members function as preferential voting members and Student Advisors to the Superintendent and the NMUSD Board of Trustees. Student Board Members provide the NMUSD Governing Body with information regarding student interests, concerns, and ideas. Student Board Member applicants must be entering Grad...e 11 or 12 in the fall. As a Student Board Member, you must be able to attend one evening Board of Education meeting a month (meetings begin at 6 p.m.). Student Board Members will need to study meeting agenda materials in advance of the meetings. Student Board Members also serve on the Superintendent's Advisory Council. AGREEMENT REACHED WITH NEWPORT MESA FEDERATION OF TEACHERS FOR SECONDARY REOPENING We are pleased to announce that the District reached an agreement with the Newport-Mesa Federation of Teachers (NMFT) the evening of November 2, primarily related to the reopening of our secondary schools for Level 2. Highlights of the agreement include:... Employees will assist in disinfecting desks in their classrooms Approval of the hybrid secondary instructional model Four days a week, full days with alternate cohorts Each class divided into two cohorts; students remain in their assigned cohorts and attend in-person classes on the days designated on their schedules; and students in either cohort may elect to participate in at-home learning Daily live interaction of at least 15 minutes per class with at-home cohort Student support/intervention block of 30 minutes One day a week Distance Learning (DL) for both cohorts, with teacher professional development and staff/department collaboration time School sites will vote to finalize their school schedules and will communicate specific schedules later this week The District and NMFT will continue to negotiate items related to elementary schools for the 2020-2021 school year. REMINDER: Costa Mesa Middle and High School, Corona del Mar Middle and High School, Ensign Intermediate School, Estancia High School, Newport Harbor High School and TeWinkle Middle School will transition to hybrid in-person instruction on Monday, November 9, 2020. COVID DASHBOARD In an effort to continue to provide accurate and up-to-date information related to COVID-19 in our schools, a dashboard was created that states the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases by school. The number listed includes staff and/or students within the past 14-day period. This information is updated daily. In the event of a positive case in our schools, as appropriate and under the direction of the Orange County Healthcare Agency, the school nurse, principal, or District staff will notify any staff or students who are considered to be a close contact with a COVID-19 positive person. There will be no school Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
When students return to in-person instruction next week they will use one of 3 designated entrances on campus and will be screened by school personnel. Students should arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of their first class. The bell schedule will be released later this week.
Production Drama students across N-MUSD secondary schools recently participated in a Digital Cabaret. Our Estancia drama students have been working hard to prepare for their parts, doing it all virtually from their homes. Our Eagles are amazing! Please watch and enjoy the show.
