Hey parents! Need inspiration for an easy, fun craft activity that everyone will love? This super-fun activity has loads of benefits for ALL ages. Grab some kitchen sponges and paint and get messy and creative with your little ones... ... For 1-year-olds: Tiny tots will love getting messy, mixing colors, and feeling the textures of sponge and paint. This is full-on sensory discovery, with a side of hand-eye coordination for little ones. For 2-year-olds: As they practice gripping and grasping, they’re developing their fine motor skills. They can experiment with color and notice what happens when they mix. As they decorate their paper, they’re expressing themselves, and it’s still messy, which means: FUN! For 3-year-olds: Ask them to help gather the materials. A little more responsibility at this age promotes independence and confidence. They can even help with pouring the paint and setting the popsicle sticks into the sponges. Ask them to tell you about their creation for a little imaginary exploration. For older kiddos: Let them trace around the objects to practice their pen control. Let them choose their craft paper and perhaps even plan their design based on the colors and shapes you use. Sounds good? Let’s go! Here’s what you need: Kitchen sponges Objects to draw around: bottle tops, coasters, etc Sharpie Scissors Popsicle sticks Glue Paint Paint palette or paper plate Craft paper And here’s the simple how-to: Draw shapes onto the sponges. You can use bottle tops and coasters as templates to get circles and squares, or you can freestyle it. Cut out the sponge shapes and make an incision on the top. Add glue to the popsicle stick ends before you stick them in the sponges, or for smaller sticks (for smaller hands), chop the popsicle sticks in half, glue, and attach. Squeeze some paints into the palette or onto the paper plate. Holding the stick, plunge the sponge into some colorful paint. Stamp the painty sponge onto your craft paper to make a masterpiece!
