So grateful that the community and our schools come together each year to celebrate the arts in schools. 9 years ago, Jan Munroe Arcaro was asked to start a committee and invited me to join her in a quest to find ways to connect community, artists, art groups, and the schools to promote arts education. It took two long years of discussions, volunteering, networking and planning for the first smART Festival to come to fruition. This was the best way that committee could come u...p with to reach the objectives of The California Alliance for Arts Education goals for our pilot program. It was a hard and bumpy road getting there and there is always more to be done because the arts make such a difference in childrens lives, but I am truly happy that CCAE and EUSD have taken this event to a place of sustainability and continue to celebrate the arts in education each year with the smART Festival. Seeing it continue makes me realize that with preserverance, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to if it is done in good faith and with hard work and heart Thank You Leila Vander Lyke for making sure to keep the vision alive...and as always special thanks to Wendy Wilson, Lenka Juric(Arts off Broadway) and Mel Takahara for the blood sweat and tears put in to making that first year happen as volunteers...I hope you as our community attend this event and celebrate together with EUSD the beautiful visual and performing arts of all the schools in EUSD.
