Attention OUSD high school juniors and seniors! Prom season is almost here, and we don't want anyone to be unable to attend because they cannot afford a dress. ...That's why we are teaming up with the Oakland Public Education Fund and the Golden State Warriors Lesley West. Dressed By West has you covered, in incredibly generous style. Ms. West is once again giving away brand-new dresses to any high school junior or senior who needs one - nearly 1,000 free dresses in all. Students just need to sign up for a time slot on Saturday, March 16, browse the Dressed by West collection at McClymonds High School in the Best Buy Teen Tech Center, then walk out with the perfect dress. OUSD thanks Ms. West for once again being there for our students! Students, register here.

We reach out to the entire District community now because of some extremely inaccurate reporting that happened on Spanish-language TV station, Univision 14. At ...6 p.m. on Friday, they had a report that some viewers interpreted to mean that any students who miss three days or more of school during the strike could be fined by the District. That is NOT TRUE. No one in our District has ever said anything like that in the media or anywhere else. We spoke with Univision who admitted the mistake and ran a full correction on Friday night at 11. Please know the District will not be punitive in its approach to students having unexcused absences during the strike. On a related note, we have heard some terrible rumors that the District may threaten people’s immigration status if they are not in school. That is absolutely false, and no one in the District would ever say such a thing. OUSD is a Sanctuary District, inside a Sanctuary City, inside a Sanctuary State and we will always stand up for our students no matter where they came from or how they got here. Thank you, and we hope you have a nice peaceful weekend.
