Rest in power to our dear friend and colleague Sheria Joseph. Sheria was a longtime volunteer with EOC and last year officially joined staff in the food & supply distribution program. She had an amazing kind, giving and quiet spirit. She had genuine heart for the work and the people. She will truly be missed by all and we will strive every day to keep her memory alive. We are grateful that (formerly unhoused) mama Tanara @1989theebook now has housing. Thank you to all that supported Tanara through her birthing experience and now the funds have also landed her an apartment paid through next year. Thank you community for donating funds to make sure this mama and family no longer had to live in their car in the streets of East Oakland. Tanara, son and baby girl are doing well. Tanara is job hunting in her new hometown. If you want to support this family further, they need furniture (currently sleeping on the apartment floor). Cash app Tanara directly $Y8hweh
Seasons greetings from #teamEOC. In these unprecedented times where the needs in our community only seem to increase, we still send out positive vibes, good karma, hope, and to all for a safe and healthy holiday and winter season. Scenes from our holiday giveaway.
Congrats to #EOC Executive Director, Candice Elder, on her appointment to the City of Oakland’s new Commission on Homelessness. Candice is looking forward to continuing to make impact in Oakland. ****** The Commisison on Homelessness provides oversight of the Oakland vacant property tax (2018 Measure W1)(estimated $7 million/year) and the 2020 Measure Q homelessness funds received bv the City of Oakland for Homeless services, and makes recommendations to the City Council for strategies to remedy homelessness.
