Teen Volunteer, Yvette Amirian, uses LAPL eMedia resources to inform her DIY arts & crafts and room-improvement projects. Here’s her DIY story, plus photos! Yvette: A few weeks ago I decided to repaint my desk. The old pencil stains, paint stains, coffee stains, and scratches, began to seem bland after years of using that desk. I started to feel unmotivated and therefore decided to start my project. The Los Angeles Public Library offers Woodworking For Dummies, which was such... a great help. Find it here on LAPL’s Overdrive: https://lapl.overdrive.com/media/553870 It taught me the proper way to sand, prime, and paint my desk. So once I read a big chunk of the book, I knew I was ready to begin. Under the burning sun, I sanded my desk for hours in pursuit of making it the smoothest surface I could manage. A day later, I used my two paint colors and painted the desk, making sure to get two even coats. My renewed desk is a source of motivation that gives me pride to continue and put in great effort into my schoolwork.
