Heya Empowered People! Long time no see huh lol. I moved to New York on the 1st of January 2021! It was the most fantastic new year I’ve ever celebrated! ... It was my boyfriend & I and our now TWO pups eating takeout on our basically empty apartment. It was heaven. I came here for school & I’ve never felt like I belong somewhere more in my entire life. My entire life has changed these last two months & I’ve taken a huge break from all Empowered Intention responsibilities. Even though I’ve still been giving readings & continued to sell merchandise, I haven’t posted & created that sense of community with you all & for that I am sorry. I thought there was no better way to come back than to make a post about the way I’ve been feeling which is sorry. Apology languages are JUST as if not more important than love languages. Love languages show appreciation, care & consideration. & apology languages show remorse, growth & respect. Wait, what is an emotional safe word? I'm sure that is exactly what you thought when you read this post. Well, just like when we are experiencing intimacy physically with a partner & we have a safe word, we need the same for our everyday arguments/discussions.... An emotional safe word is used primarily with two romantic partners that are having some type of dispute & do not know how to self-regulate or cope with their feelings. To put it very plainly, it's when one or both partners don't know how to handle their anger & get in a screaming match or say hurtful words. Safe words keep us safe. They let our partner know when we have had enough & when what we are experiencing is getting too intense or just isn't any fun anymore. You can pick a funny safe word to defuse the heightened emotions or a loving one to bring you both back to remembering you are on a team or anything you want really. I know it might be weird converting this to your relationships but I promise you it makes an insane world of difference. When negative feelings arise, the first thing we want to do is push them away. It’s uncomfortable, I get it. No one wants to be in a bad mood & most of the time we don’t have the emotional capacity to recognize this is a moment to learn something amazing about ourselves. ... Feelings are our teacher. They allow us to learn more about what triggers us & what helps alleviate said triggers. They also help us learn more about our behaviors & why’s which give us important inner insight. Harnessing your feelings & expressing them becomes a lot easier once we face our inner demons & make peace with them. Negative emotions are not our enemy, they are our emotional instructor. Being heard is such a vital part to healing. & when we’re in pain it’s so hard to get people to listen. & even if they do, they might not know the right things to say which make us feel even more misunderstood. ... But the first step we need to take before being heard by anyone else is by listening to ourselves. Allowing ourselves to hear out our thoughts, concerns, & desires. A lot of the time we look to others to get the answers & to validate our feelings. But true healing begins once we finally hone in and begin to listen to ourselves. By doing this, it gives us a huge skill of confidence to be able to be listened to by someone else. This can include a therapist, family member, trusted friend, trusted lover etc. Anyone that we know will create a space for us to say what we feel. This is very difficult for most people because a lot of us are told to be quiet. To not make a scene. or you can’t tell someone that, that’s private. We’re silenced in our pain & suppression begins. Then this becomes our normal. But you CAN stop the pattern or create a new pattern for yourself by opening yourself up to the idea of being listened to & letting go of the shame others enforced in you. Healing can be really hard. It is no easy journey. There’s demons to face, shadow work to do & fears to overcome. ... Not to mention getting completely out of your comfort zone & becoming a better version of yourself. All of this is no walk in the park. & for us that know how hard healing can be, we need to remember to practice our joy rituals. Since the pandemic started a lot of people have developed depression & anxiety. & people that already have depression & anxiety have had their symptoms worsen. It’s a lot to handle with people losing their jobs, being isolated, having a scary virus out there w/ no cure yet etc. ... In this time mental health is so vital to stay on top of. & for a lot of people, taking care of their mental health means going to therapy & or having medication such as antidepressants, mood stabilizers & more. If you are one of those people, validate yourself. You are out here taking care of yourself & seeking out the help you need, talk about a self aware person I know there’s a hell of a lot of stigma out there about having a therapist or getting medicated but do your own research. You have no idea how much help & skills there are out there at your fingertips that can tremendously improve your life. You are not less than because you need therapy or medication. Just like when your tummy doesn’t feel right you go to the doctor & there’s routine checkups, it is the same with mental health. Go see a specialist to help you.
