As Summer is just around the corner here are a few tips while outdoors: BE AWARE Always check your surroundings for snakes. Avoid letting your pet swim in murky water. Carry a stick in brushy areas to forewarn snakes and scan the area. ... If, in the unfortunate event, your pet gets a snakebite, here are a few do’s and don’ts to help you: DO’s - 1) Treat all bites as an emergency. 2) Take your pet to the nearest vet clinic. 3) Inform the veterinary clinic that you are on your way, so they may prepare anti-venom. 4) Remain calm, this will also keep your pet in a calm state. Excitement will only make your pets heart to beat faster, causing any toxin to rush around the body. 6) Immobilize the injured limb. 7) Avoid any movement that will increase the spread of toxin out of the bite area as the blood pumps. 8)Keep all bites below the level of the heart to avoid circulation of the toxin. DON’Ts - 1) This is a is big one: Do not apply a tourniquet. This could be very dangerous to the leg. 2) Never attempt to suck or cut out the venom. And 3) Don’t place ice on the bite. Never be afraid to venture out. Preparing for snake encounters will put you and your pets mind at ease to venture out. Don’t forget to have fun and respect the wildlife!

Did you know if you find a lost pet, you can take them to a veterinary office (if animal control is not available) and they can scan for a microchip with Owners contact information. Having current contact information on both your pets microchip and/or name tags can help locate them when they become lost.
