Sally Rideout, Principal Planner, recently attended the webinar Toward Wildfire Resilience: Reducing Risk and Streamlining CEQA. The information presented in the webinar focused on land use planning and vegetation management strategies to reduce wildfire risk, along with a discussion of CEQA streamlining strategies to expedite their implementation. This information is useful for the Company’s current knowledge and experience in assisting municipalities, counties, special districts and other public and private entities with their planning and implementation of wildfire prevention/defense programs.

Several EMC Planning Group staff members attended a webinar on changes to evaluating Transportation impacts under CEQA using Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) as a metric instead of Level of Service (LOS). The webinar was sponsored by the California Office of Planning and Research. This change takes place July 2020, although many public agencies have already implemented this new metric, and EMC Planning Group has been assisting their public agencies clients and private clients wi...th understanding how these changes are implemented and how they affect proposed projects. EMC Planning Group has been involved in the discussion of this change for the past two years. While this change has resulted in numerous questions about its appropriateness and its implementation, our staff continues to stay up-to-day with the progress at the state level, and work closely with our transportation subconsultants to prepare the appropriate transportation analysis ensuring adequate compliance with CEQA.
