Immigrant Groups ask the Biden Administration to establish a cut-off date for new Comprehensive Immigration Reform The Biden/Harris Administration has committed to submit immediately a bill for a new Comprehensive Immigration Reform right after his inauguration on January 20th, 2021. The members of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition, integrated by a diverse group of Mexican and Central American community-based organizations ask that the Biden/Harris Administration establish the cut-off date as of December 31st, 2020, and to reveal the essential components of the bill before January 31st, 2021. The last time an immigration reform was seriously considered was with the proposal by Senators Edward Kenney (D-MA) and John McCain (R-AR) and Congressmen Jeff Flake (R-AR) and Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill) in 2013. With the victory of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris and their promise to create a pathway to legalization and citizenship for nearly 12 million undocumented immigrants, who work and reside in the United States, the community needs to know what’s going to be the cut-off date in the immigration reform bill as well as its main component parts, stated Mr. Salvador Sanabria, the Executive Director of El Rescate, a not for profit community based organization based in Los Angeles. The members of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition ask the Biden/Harris administration make public the cut-off date for the promised immigration reform proposal soon to be sent to Congress and to inform the public about the essential components parts that will be at the foundation of their Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill. There is a great need to revise the broken asylum system and the renewal of the refugees numbers for the upcoming years, as well as, the integration of the Dream Act language into this bill and the path to Legal Permanent Residency for all eligible beneficiaries of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) comprised of nearly half a million immigrants from Central America, Somalia, Nepal and Haiti.
