OUSD high school students are organizing a 3-part virtual workshop series for Black + Asian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern students on March 24, 25 & 26 from 3-4:30 pm to build solidarity, learn history, and share stories. The Golden State Warriors paid tribute to VP Harris with a video that features an OUSD student, and guard Stephen Curry. In it, as the team celebrates Ms. Harris becoming Vice President, Stella, a student at Melrose Leadership Academy talks about what it means for her to see a woman of color - like her - reach the White House. And while VP Harris speaks about what it means to her, and what she wants young people to see in this progress for the nation, the team and Curry present her with a Madame VP jersey. Check it out!

OUSD musicians are performing virtually while making a powerful statement about racial justice. They collaborated on Freedom of Speech, a project between the Oakland EastSide All-Star Ensemble (OEASE) and Oakland-based Hip Hop artist, JAHI. OEASE is comprised of high school and middle school jazz musicians from Oakland Technical High School, Oakland High School Wildcats, Skyline High School - Oakland, Oakland School for the Arts and Edna Brewer Middle School. This project w...as created with the support of SFJAZZ and The Generations in Jazz Foundation. It speaks to the urgency of addressing racial equality and the systemic problems embedded in American society. These musicians use their song and spirit to fight for what needs to change in our world. Oakland Youth Commission and OUSD All City Council are teaming up to bring you a youth-led panel for candidates running for Oakland’s School Board and City Council. October 23, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. We want candidates to center youth issues for considering quality of life and education in Oakland, inspire YOU to engage with local elections and to become civic leaders, and empower voters to know which candidates Oakland's YOUTH support!
