Today, calm winds and a temperature inversion through the morning hours will limit mixing and dispersion. However, as a weak cold front moves through the region, light northwesterly winds will develop in the afternoon and evening, dispersing pollutants and keeping particle levels Moderate. Today, morning fog and abundant low-level moisture will enhance particle production in the atmosphere, causing pollutants to build up near the surface. However, light to moderate northwesterly winds will disperse pollutants, leading to low-Moderate particle levels. Tuesday, early morning dense fog, along with light winds through much of the day and pollutant carryover, will lead to high-Moderate particle levels. Wednesday, light morning winds will continue to limit pollutant dispersion. Furthermore, southeasterly afternoon winds will bring regional pollutants into the area. News release from the U.S. Forest Service - Eldorado National Forest: Christmas Tree Permits Available Online Beginning Next Week for the Eldorado National Forest PLACERVILLE, CA - The Eldorado National Forest will begin selling Christmas tree permits online through Recreation.gov beginning Monday, November 16. The cost of each permit is $10 per tree with a $2.50 service charge for using the online permit system. Each household may purchase up to two tree permits with a credi...t or debit card. The $10 permit fee will be waived for any 4th grade student who has an Every Kid Outdoors voucher. For many families, going out into the forest to find a tree for the holidays is a treasured tradition that has been carried on for generations, said Forest Supervisor Jeff Marsolais. For others, this is an opportunity to start a new tradition and discover the joy of bringing a tree home from your national forest and creating special memories. The Forest Service decided to offer permit sales on Recreation.gov as an added convenience for visitors, as well as an alternative to in-person transactions at offices that remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Permits are only available for purchase via Recreation.gov and will not be available at Forest Service offices. The last day to buy a Christmas Tree Permit will be December 31. To purchase a Christmas Tree permit, visit Recreation.gov at www.recreation.gov/tree-permits/eldorado. It is important to carefully read the overview and need-to-know information prior to purchasing the permit. Visitors will also need to set up or login to a Recreation.gov account to complete the transaction. Remember to print your permit at home before heading out on your tree cutting adventure. Please use the maps provided on the forest website to avoid trespassing on private property when searching for your tree. The trees that can be cut with your permit are a maximum of 6 inches at the base. As well as providing holiday cheer, cutting these smaller trees also improves forest health. Removing small-diameter trees in designated areas helps other trees grow larger and can open areas to provide forage for wildlife. In addition to a free Christmas tree permit, fourth graders who sign up for the Every Kid Outdoors voucher will have a waiver on entrance fees at National parks and other federal lands. Please note however, this voucher does not waive other kinds of concessionaire campground and parking fees. Additional information about Christmas tree permits can be found on the Eldorado National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/eldorado. Visitor information specialists are also available to answer questions Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM: Forest Supervisors’ Office 530-303-2412 Georgetown Ranger District 530-334-6477 Pacific / Placerville Ranger District 916-500-4712 Amador Ranger District 209-259-3774

California Statewide Fire Summary November 3, 2020 This morning nearly 4,100 firefighters continue to battle 22 wildfires in California. Yesterday, firefighters responded to 23 new wildfires and quickly contained them. As favorable weather continues, firefighters are strongly working to increase containment lines.... Continued quiet, dry, and mild conditions continue through much of the week. Locally elevated fire weather conditions continue across the southern California mountains through midweek, where local wind gusts to 30 mph and very dry conditions are expected. Areas of coastal fog tonight into Wednesday morning. Significant change in the weather pattern expected Friday and into the weekend. Much cooler temperatures expected statewide by the weekend. Fire weather conditions may become elevated for parts of the state during the windiest conditions on Friday. The forecast for November predicts warmer and drier than average weather across much of California. Many areas in Northern California, as well as the Southern Coast and Los Angeles Basin, will remain at an above normal potential for significant fire. Despite cooler temperatures, fire danger remains elevated due to lack of rainfall and warmer than normal temperatures. CAL FIRE continues to be staffed and prepared for wildfires, and is asking all Californians to do the same. To learn ways to prepare for wildfires, as well as other emergency preparedness tips, visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
