Yesterday evening at approximately 6:30 PM a vehicle vs bicyclist collision occurred at University and Michigan. A 10 year old girl was riding her bicycle across University in the crosswalk. The cars in the right lane stopped for her and her sister, but a car traveling in the left lane did not stop in time and hit her. The girl was transported to a local Hospital with a lower leg injury. The driver was cited for driving without a license and no proof of insurance. Reckle...ss driving (as defined in the California Vehicle Code) was not a factor in this collision. This morning we learned the girl suffered a broken leg and is still in the hospital. A reminder for drivers. If you notice the cars in the lane next to you are slowing down and/or stopping, they are doing it for a reason. Aware drivers are safe drivers. Ayer por la noche, aproximadamente a las 6:30 pm, ocurrio una colision entre un vehiculo y un ciclista en la Universidad y Michigan. Una nina de 10 anos cruzaba en bicicleta la Universidad en el paso de peatones. Los autos en el carril derecho se detuvieron para ella y su hermana, pero un auto que viajaba por el carril izquierdo no se detuvo a tiempo y la golpeo. La nina fue trasladada a un hospital local con una lesion en la parte inferior de la pierna. El conductor fue citado por conducir sin licencia y sin prueba de seguro. La conduccion imprudente (como se define en el Codigo de vehiculos de California) no fue un factor en esta colision. Esta manana supimos que la nina sufrio una fractura en la pierna y todavia esta en el hospital. Un recordatorio para los conductores. Si nota que los autos en el carril de al lado estan reduciendo la velocidad y / o deteniendose, lo estan haciendo por una razon. Los conductores conscientes son conductores seguros.

Shortly before 6:00 pm on October 29, 2020 patrol initiated a traffic stop on a young man, later identified as 18 year old Zakari Gordon, riding an off road motorcycle on the city street with no helmet. Gordon fled from the officer at a high rate of speed, losing the officer in the process. Responding officers checked the neighborhood and located Gordon stopped on the 400 block of Green Street. As an officer walked toward Gordon while telling him to stay there, Gordon agai...n started to flee on the motorcycle. As Gordon was trying to escape, he rode on the wrong side of the roadway and used his motorcycle to squeeze between a patrol vehicle and a parked van, hitting both in the process. Gordon lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a fence. Gordon was taken into custody and provided medical aid for a complaint of pain to his knee. Gordon was later transported to Stanford Hospital where we learned he broke his pelvis and kneecap. During a video recorded interview Gordon admitted to hitting the police car. Street Sweeping enforcement will resume October 1, 2020. Please make sure you check the signs on your streets and move cars so the sweepers can clean up as we all prepare for the rainy season. Cleaning our streets now will reduce the likelihood of backed up storm drains when it starts raining. La aplicación de la limpieza de calles se reanudará el 1 de octubre de 2020.
