Congratulations to the first two award winners from tonight's preliminary Showcase. Tomorrow its Talent for Skyla, Shriya Cynthia and Sofia and Self Expression and Fitness for Cynthia. Tune in tomorrow for more excellence! Stay classy San Diego! #DYW
Were so proud of our five very Distinguished Young Women of San Diego County participating in the California State Finals tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. We're looking forward to seeing Skyla, Shriya, Cynthia, Vivian and Sofia shine each of these three nights. They won't be able to hear our cheers but we'll be sending them their way. Much love to you all from your Board and Committee members. #DYW
Janet Yellen was sworn in as U.S. Treasury Secretary today, making her the first woman in the Treasury's 232-year history to hold the nation's most powerful eco...nomic position! To learn more about her historic appointment -- and to listen to the new Hamilton'-esque song celebrating this trailblazing labor economist -- visit https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=32580 To introduce kids to the first woman to serve in a presidential cabinet and the mastermind behind President Roosevelt's New Deal -- we highly recommend "The Only Woman In The Photo: Frances Perkins & Her New Deal for America" for ages 5 to 10 at https://www.amightygirl.com/the-only-woman-in-the-photo Frances Perkins' story is also told for ages 12 and up in "A Woman Unafraid: The Achievements Of Frances Perkins" (https://www.amightygirl.com/a-woman-unafraid) and adult readers in "The Woman Behind the New Deal: The Life and Legacy of Frances Perkins" (https://www.amightygirl.com/the-woman-behind-the-new-deal) For two excellent books to introduce young readers to trailblazing women in politics, we highly recommend "Leading the Way: Women in Power" for ages 9 and up (https://www.amightygirl.com/leading-the-way) and "A Woman in the House (and Senate)" (https://www.amightygirl.com/a-woman-in-the-house-and-senate), both for ages 9 and up And for a fun way to teach kids the basics of economics, we highly recommend the strategy game Mystic Market for ages 10 and up at https://www.amightygirl.com/mystic-market
#EmpoweringWomenWednesdays Sarah Thomas From being the first female to be employed full-time as an NFL official in 2015, to the first female to officiate th...e Super Bowl in 2021! Sarah Thomas is changing the game for women in a male-dominated field. I never set out to be the first in any of this, says Thomas, but knowing the impact I'm having on young girls, women everywhere - and young men too - is remarkable" #EmpoweringWomen #DYW #NFL (: Getty Images)

California never wins this contest, mainly because they never compete. But we do have a great record of earning a scholastic award! #DYW
Happy Birthday wishes to Sally Schiavon, our Judges Chair. Formerly the Delano program Chair from 1996 to 2010 and then on the state program Board of Directors from 2010 to 2015, we're happy she retired to Carlsbad and joined our team! #DYW
This sounds like a good event for all San Diego County girls to participate in, not just our DYDubs. #DYW
Our DYDubs are awesome! Here's a great opportunity being provided by Richa (Carlsbad, Class of 2020) and her friends. Don't miss it! #DYW
Lauren Saclauso (Class of 2018) is doing great things at U.C.S.D. She is part of Kaibigang Pilipin@ (KP) Community Outreach to Realize Empowerment (CORE) Board and she works to inspire & empower students to pursue higher education by providing resources and opportunities specifically to communities that are underserved/under-resourced. This month, they are conducting a series of college application help sessions to assist high school seniors with their personal statements. All the info is in the graphic so if you know anyone who is looking for help with college apps, please share their event with them! #DYW
Double congratulations to Jacquelyn Askew (Carlsbad, Class of 2016) on her wedding engagement in September (we're not sure if we ever acknowledged that momentous occasion) and now her birthday today. She's having a great year in spite of COVID. Jacquelyn is now the Graduate Hall Director at Texas A&M Residence Life while studying Finance after her recent graduation with a Biomedical Engineering degree. #DYW
Marisa Gomez (Coastal San Diego and California, Class of 2015) in action tonight.
These are applicable for a DYW interview too. Take note class of 2022. Register now at www.distinguished.org. #dyw
Apparently Skyla Nelson (Carlsbad, Class of 2021) has heard a certain phrase uttered enough times so that she made it the theme of her entry in a neighborhood scarecrow contest. Can you tell who she's honoring with this scarecrow? #DYW
Wishing everyone a safe & Happy Halloween tonight!
Today Elif is sharing all treats, no tricks! Watch her weekly IGTV show, Up Early With Elif, on @dywofamerica at 3pm EST for a festive segment and some special guests! #DYW #DYW2021 #HappyHalloween
Not applicable to our DYDubs!
TBT photo of the Class of 2018 taken at the National Finals in Mobile. The Logistics Crew arranged the participants bags in a giant heart for them to see as they entered the auditorium on their last day. It was the girls idea to stage this photo and little did they know that Aaryan Morrison, who was seated first in the heart, would be named the Distinguished Young Woman of America later that night! Next to Aaryan and behind the pink bag is our Kimberly Marquez in the orange shirt. What a great year that was, seems so long ago and in much happier times. #DYW
