It was, as it always is, humbling to serve our siblings who have fallen on hard times. We've heard time and time again how much they want to lift themselves out of their situation but just need a helping hand (which we all need from time to time). Of course the government is doing what they can to help but as we've seen decade after decade, th...ey find it difficult to get the results needed. It's time for us, the people to take some of the burden off the government bodies and help our community during these difficult times. Just imagine it. There you are, living unsheltered and you are about to make a huge leap. Imagine that the day you become housed you also become part of a team creating your own prosperous, sustainable future. The sky is the limit. You are close enough to public transportation to get around but far enough removed that you can escape to the Mother Earth with all the restorative nature she offers. You learn new skills that create the foundation for a new business you will creat...e. You participate as a full voting member of a council that’s choosing next seasons crop seeds and which vendors to sell goods to. You are listening to yourself and to your new, healing community, free from stigma and oppression. Imagine you take a break from your work and catch a view over the city at a beautiful sun that nourishes your bountiful crops as well as your spirit. Everything you need is right here. Plumbing, electricity, healthy food and a safe dwelling to call your own. Supportive community is all around you. You breathe in that air and smell the sweetness of all your life now brings. You look at the horizon, towards your future. It’s brilliant. You can relax now. It’s smooth sailing ahead for you. You have worked hard. You’ve earned it. You were given an opportunity to resolve the issues you experienced with your dignity in tact. Now, my friends, what if I told you that you have an opportunity to contribute to making that experience a reality for our neighbors without houses. Would you jump on that opportunity? This is what we at Duwara Consciousness Foundation can offer but we need your financial help. I support and am a part of this vision. I am committed to working with the rest of the DCF team to create the programs, ensure we are good stewards of the earth, and most of all good stewards of the people who will build this future together. Today’s #guestwho is Eryk. At only 22 years old, Eryk’s from Oceanside CA. Homeless at 17, he always try’s to be as helpful as possible to anyone who comes his way. Whether that’s giving his last bit of change, or being an ear for someone in need. DCF - How many times per week do you get fruits and vegetables? Eryk - never DCF - Home cooked hot food?... Eryk - never DCF - Hot Showers? Eryk - only here at DCF twice a week DCF - What are the conditions of these showers? Eryk - really good. Surprising clean. Expected to be a little clean but these are really well kept! DCF - How did you become homeless? Eryk - mom had to move. I was on probation and I couldn’t move. Taking drugs didn’t help either DCF - How long have you been homeless? Eryk - in and out since 17 DCF - What’s the longest you have gone without a meal? Eryk - 4 days DCF - What’s the longest you have gone without a shower? Eryk - weeks DCF - Do you have any job skills you would like to promote to our audience? Eryk - I’m hard working and a quick learner. Always punctual and ready to go! Please help if you can! DCF - Anything else you want our donors to know?
