Yesss girl! What amazing courage this woman showed in her peaceful protest in Portland last Saturday. It reminded me of a story and a painting that was shared at our @vivalavulvala exhibition in 2018 by artist Amanda Sage @amandasageart (scroll images to see painting) it’s the story of Anasyrma the act of lifting the skirt The words below are from Amanda Sage written in regards to the inspiration behind her piece and offers insight to the power we wield in this incredibly... vulnerable act. ANA-SUROMAI: derived from a Greek word meaning ‘to lift the skirt’, women have been lifting their skirts for centuries to ward off evil & enhance fertility. Also known as Anasyrma or plural: Anasyrmata; this symbolic act is found in mythologies of various cultures of ancient Egypt, Greece, Persia, Ireland, Africa, Indonesia & Japan. It is said that the evil-averting gesture in women collectively exposing their genitalia have the power to shame & defeat an advancing army. It is said that when Persephone was kidnapped into the underworld by Hades, her mother Demetra went into such mourning that life on earth began to wilt & die. It wasn’t until Baubo lifted her skirt & shocked her into laughter thus restoring vitality & fertility on earth. Laughter being the key element in healing & resurrecting life. The act of revealing publicly the hidden core of womanhood initiates a process of change that operates on a world scale, as well as on an individual level. At some point in human history, female genitalia were considered potent enough to be used as the catalyst for bringing the earth and all life back from the brink of destruction. Excerpts from & inspired by Catherine Blackledge’s book ‘The Story of V’ shared by artist Amanda Sage with her painting ANA SUROMAI’ 140 x 200cm oil & egg tempera on linen by Amanda Sage 2005-11 #laartist #anasymra #peacefulprotest #portland #BLM #fineart #painting #photography

Meet artist Clairfoster Browne. His paintings and sculptures are filled with Afrocentric iconography that are so vibrant and dynamic that the energy spills off the canvas. The viewer’s eye is drawn in close to try to experience all of the hundreds if not thousands of feelings and stories that he has implemented into his work. Clairfoster had his first solo show at REN Gallery in August of 2019 titled Colored In Culture during the month of his 40th birthday. Proceeds from ...the sales of these works will be given to support the artist and the #BLM movement. In the arts we have an opportunity and obligation to share a vision of the world we live in and the world we'd like to create. I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to represent people of many different ethnicities, religions and gender and at this time I would like to specifically promote the Black artists that work with REN Gallery. I took some time off social media in the past few months to reflect on the gallery's road ahead during this pandemic. The tragedy of George Floyd’s murder globally rocked our society into action. I understand that this is not the time to be silent and I believe that this confluence of socially disparate issues will bring about positive change. That we have to find a way to build trust and foundations that are not full of cracks. That all of us will take a moment to recognize our failures, and our successes in these unprecedented times. That in this moment of reflection perhaps we recognize that we all breathe the same air, bleed the same blood and one race should not bleed more of it, and that no human being's life is less than another’s. It is time to get back to work, to speak up and to share words and art that promote change #BLM #changetheworld #artspeaksvolumes #art #fineart #laartist #clairfosterbrowne #californiaart @clarifster @rengallery #BlackLivesMatter - Please DM me if interested in collecting works by this artist

Our permanent installation by artist @rob_grad was installed just last weekend on this climbing staircase wall @hudsonppi. Spanning over 30 feet wide and incorporating 27 individually cut pieces of plexi-glass assembled into this beautiful mixed media work titled, I Could Sit Here All Day - a year in the making this project was a challenge but we learned so much and it was incredibly fulfilling to see it make it to its new home. Well done to all who worked on this project with us :) @ Brentwood, Los Angeles

LA's architecture comes to life in SILENT OBSERVERS * DTLA, a solo photography exhibition featuring Miguel Rodriguez. Opening Jan 18th @rengallery With this ongoing project, Miguel Rodriguez pays tribute to the architectural jewels of downtown Los Angeles. Using both still and time-lapse photography, the focus of attention is the ornamental and structural details that give them their unique character and soul. My goal is not only to shine a light onto the magnificent and o...ften overlooked structures, but also to showcase the constant transformation that imbue the facades with life as the sun traverses the sky. The subject is architectural, but the real protagonist is the ever-changing light. - Miguel Rodriguez. Rodriguez has worked as a commercial artist for the entertainment and advertising industries. A career spanning over two decades he has worked around the world including Miami, New York, Detroit, Latin America, Spain, and his hometown of Los Angeles. @auput @silent_observers @rengallery #silentobserversdtla #rengallery #fineart #photography #dtla #historiclandmark #architecture #latinamericanart #laartist #venezuelanartist #architecturephotography #architecturetimelapse #architecturaldigest #architecture_view #californiaarchitecture #americaninstituteofarchitects #laconservancy #losangelesconservancy #losangeles #timelapse #timelapsevideos #timelapsephotography #dtlawanderer #splendid_urban #lamagviews #photola #losangeles #losangelestimes #losangelesart #photoart
