I just got vaccinated. I am so thankful to the clinicians and scientists who have worked to develop COVID-19 vaccines to help eradicate this deadly virus. The years of previous research on related viruses and the enormous funding that allowed firms to run multiple trials were critical in achieving this herculean accomplishment. #covidvaccine #protectingthecommunity #formypatients #formyfamily

Wishing our family and friends a very Merry Christmas!

Great news! We now have a second vaccine to help fight the virus. The independent Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 20-0 with one abstention to support mRNA-1273, a vaccine made in collaboration with the U.S. government by Moderna, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotechnology company.

We are now starting to see the Pfizer vaccine being distributed locally. I think we should feel confident the vaccine is safe. Pfizer has run tests that include more than 44,000 people. A very thorough FDA analysis of the vaccine's safety and effectiveness on people aged 16 and older found "no specific safety concerns" that would preclude the vaccine's use. As of today, we surpassed the 300,000 Deaths from COVID-19. https://www.npr.org//what-you-need-to-know-as-the-first-co

A recent study out of the United Kingdom showed that dexamethasone, which is aninexpensive, widely available drug can help save the lives of patients seriously ill with coronavirus. I routinely use this drug in my cancer patients. The low-dose steroid treatment dexamethasone is a major breakthrough in the fight against the deadly virus. https://www.google.com//www.bbc.c/news/amp/health-53061281

On my way home from work tonight I couldn’t help but take a few shots of the beautiful sunset and mess around with the drone.

Good news for our cancer patients. A recent study published in The Lancet showed cancer patients who had chemotherapy, radiation therapy or immunotherapy in the previous four weeks did not have an increased risk of dying from COVID-19. https://www.thelancet.com//PIIS0140-6736(20)31187/fulltext

This is probably one of the best illustrations I’ve seen that shows how masks and social (physical) distancing can help to prevent respiratory infections like the Coronavirus. #StaySafe #WearAMask #SocialDistancing #COVID-19

I never had great luck growing facial hair, especially under my nose. However, I was really happy to support my prostate cancer patients and be part of our Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center, Movember (No shave November) team. #movember2020 #MovemberBrothers #menshealthawareness #ProstateCancerAwareness

This is probably one of the better coronavirus vaccine article. Dr. Fauci estimates a vaccine could arrive in at least 12 to 18 months. https://www.nytimes.com//o/coronavirus-covid-vaccine.html

Harvard Medical School’s Office for DICP had a very productive Native American Health and COVID-19 webinar this afternoon. I was honored to be a panelist. The meeting was very engaging and informative. It was so nice to reconnect with Dr. Joan Y. Reede and the other panelists.

ABC News did another great story about Aiden and Mia. We are so proud of them for all they of done over the last month to create face shields and masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They are presently working to put a package together to send the Navajo Nation where there is a desperate need. #SavingLives #TeensThatCare #covid-19 #PPE

COVID-19 was one of the leading causes of death in our country this past week. We must all do what we can to keep each other safe. Please do your best to social distance, continue to wash your hands and do not touch your face.

I’m very honored and thankful to Dr. Rodney Haring for including me as a panelist on the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center international Cancer and COV...ID-19 Indigenous community webinar. It was a extremely productive exchange of ideas that will be very helpful to our cancer patients and communities moving forward. It was nice to be a part of an international cancer effort without having to leave my family to attend. See more

I have been experimenting with my new telemedicine equipment. Starting on Monday, I can now provide care and advice to my cancer patients online, on an iPad or even a mobile phone. We went through extensive training this past week at Scripps MD Anderson to provide this care to our patients. This is particularly important as our cancer patients are at much higher risk from serious complication should they become infected with COVID-19. #COVID-19 #Telemedicine #Telehealth

While it’s true young people who get COVID-19 are less likely to die from it, they do make up a significant portion of the hospitalizations and ICU admissions. This graph from the CDC Illustrates hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths amongst age groups. Please be safe and stay at home. https://www.weforum.org//coronavirus-young-people-hospita/

I have been getting a number of questions about who should be wearing a mask and the importance of mask use. You should only be wearing a mask if you are taking care of a person who is infected or who is suspected of being infected. Consider wearing a mask if you are sick and concerned you might be infected.... Remember to continue to wash your hands regularly. Hopefully, if we all follow these guidelines it will help us to stay safe and prevent the unnecessary use of masks so we do not run out them.

The main uncertainty in the coronavirus outbreak in the United States now is how big it will get, and how fast. Slowing the rate of spread can help to make it more manageable and save lives. #flattenthecurve #socialdistancing
