In my decades of performing thousands of liposuction cases, I have come to realize the importance of looking at the body as a whole, for balance and proportion. Instead of treating a single area, which doesn’t necessarily provide the best outcome, I look at the body from the standpoint of respecting the entire cosmetic unit. The cosmetic unit I’m treating in this lipedema patient is the lower legs, the area that begins at the knee and ends at the ankle. Rather than just tr...eating bits and pieces of her calves and ankles, I visualize the area as a curved, three-dimensional cosmetic unit and perform liposuction with a circumferential approach. You can see from the markings that I will be treating the entire circumference of her lower legs. This is especially important for lipedema patients. Lipedema affects the legs circumferentially and the treatment should reflect that. Successful execution of the circumferential approach to each cosmetic unit of the body leads to both natural looking results and better disease treatment of lipedema. Celebrated my 60th birthday with my family yesterday and walked into my office this morning to find this surprise celebration from my team. Before and Immediately post op photos from a patient who had Lipedema Liposuction surgery earlier this week. This patient has stage 3 Lipedema and had treatment on her circumferential calves, ankles and upper arms. A total of 10.5 liters was removed with 8 liters being from the calves and ankles.
