For colon cancer awareness month which is in March, several years ago I posed for this photo at the surgery center, but of course almost all my friends in healthcare notified that it wasn’t a real colonoscopy on a real patient because I’m not wearing gloves . . For colon cancer awareness month, I would like to educate you about prevention! Talk to your doctor about screening tools which could be via stool testing, colonoscopy, or CT scan. In the meanwhile, if you’re not old enough to need a screening, please eat a plant-based diet which is rich in fiber, which has shown to be protective. #coloncancerawareness #plantbasedgastroenterologist #coloncancer #coloncancerprevention #vegandoctor #gastroenterologist

Fatty liver disease is a common condition caused by the storage of fat in the liver. Most people are asymmetric, but in some cases it can lead to liver damage. Here’s the good news: you can prevent and reverse fatty liver disease with lifestyle charges. I have been putting my patients with fatty liver disease on a plant predominant diet for years, which has been helpful for the fatty liver, but also for weigh loss, constipation, and other metabolic diseases such as high cholesterol and diabetes. In a recent study, a Mediterranean diet combined with green plant-based proteins/polyphenols and restricted in red/processed meat doubled intrahepatic fat loss and reduced fatty liver in half. I must sound like a broken record, but again, please eat more Yaskolka et al. Gut 2021;0:1-11

Eosinophilic Esophagitis is an allergic disease of the esophagus which can cause severe symptoms such as difficulty swallowing food, and impaction of food in the esophagus which is a medical emergency The most common food trigger for this disease is MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS, through activating the type of immune response called TH2 cytokine-secretion. This is a common disease in young males, in particular I have seen this disease commonly in athletes who consume whey pro...tein powder. Most of you know my stance on cow’s milk and dairy in general, which causes gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, fatigue, and acne, but please add Eosinophilic Esophagitis to the list as ANOTHER Gastrointestinal disease caused by dairy products Dairy Does A Body Bad! If you’re consuming dairy, please ask yourself why? There are many different alternatives. Check out this great new film which shows the link between our food choices and the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. It also exposes the political corruption and corporate greed that fuels the problem. Challenge accepted Thank you @ronak_h_j @moni_ginasticanatural @lawofficesofnassimarzani @farnaz_f #womensupportingwomen . .... I have frequently been questioned, especially by women, of how I could reconcile family life with a scientific career. Well, it has not been easy. Marie Curie, Polish-French scientist who pioneered research on radioactivity, and the first woman to win a Nobel Prize actually 2! . . Every woman you ask will tell you the same thing: it is very difficult to balance career, children, and personal life. Because it is so difficult, it is that much more essential that women empower and support each other. We face numerous challenges; there is work place disparity, a higher expectation on women to manage the household, and take care of the children. There is sexism and a lot of social pressure on us. In many cultures, there are antiquated practices which continue to propagate from generation to generation, ex: genital mutilation, honor killing. In the media, movies often portray women as sex objects, which strips all depth from the female character, and gives young women the wrong message about beauty. In conclusion, all women face these same challenges, and since we all get it, there’s more of a reason why we should empathize and be there for each other. So let’s focus on building each other up because life is already so tough on us! See more

I was 9 years old when I decided to pursue medicine to help women who prefer to see a female physician, who could relate to them at a level that a male physician couldn’t. The problem was that I never had any female physician role models & had to look up to male physicians which was awkward & at times made me doubt myself. Although my father always cheered me on about the decision, my mother warned me about the lifestyle of female physicians not being conducive to motherho...od, keeping in shape, & the double standards. She said a women needs to take care of herself to stay young because children age you & combined with a difficult career, you will have a hard time. I grew up thinking I will be different & I want it all. It was all good until I woke up one day & realized I was surrounded by people who expected I mold into a system previously designed by men, to which I couldn’t relate. I was expected to act like a man, & work much harder than a man to prove that I’m worthy of being a physician trainee in GI, which is very male dominated. After training I decided I won’t be ashamed of my feminine body & showing skin. I wanted to be a role model for young women who are afraid they would lose their femininity as a physician. When I posted my fitness photos, almost everyone I know & don’t know criticized my decision. People said you’re damaging your career, but I followed my dreams & ignored the warnings. Then something wonderful happened. I attracted like-minded patients who said that they chose me as their physician because I live a healthy lifestyle, & walk the walk. Many young & middle-aged women have expressed their enthusiasm that now they feel like it’s possible to have a career, children & fitness. This article disappointed me in that it condemns women who have confidence to show some skin. Women who love their bodies & aren’t afraid to get out of their scrubs once in a while. Work isn’t everything! I stand by the female vascular surgeons who were put under scrutiny! @ Newport Beach, California
