Oh, but to smell them. California bounty on such a winter’s day. What shall we make now that life has given us lemons?

After this morning’s zero dark thirty crowing, it became abundantly clear that we can’t live in town with a rooster, even if he is incredibly gorgeous. We found him a new home and he can cockadoodledoo his little heart out. Godspeed Ripley, who I thought was a super awesome hen at first, but alas, she was a he. #friendsnotfood #backyardchickens #blackaustralorp

Gotta interrupt the turkey posts with a #realitycheck. For the approximately 298 million Americans out there who have not had COVID-19 directly wreak havoc in their lives and/or rob them of their loved ones, there is a lot for which they can give thanks. But for the MANY (too many!!) families who are mourning this first holiday season without their loved ones, this holiday is a melancholic one. How do you show gratitude when your heart is breaking? When you may be angry? Whe...n you feel isolated and alone? I feel for you. I have no good answers. Just know that the feelings of loss and regret may not fully go away or get better, but they will get less raw. Know that you are not alone. We have a lot of work ahead of us as a community to survive and then rebuild+recover from this pandemic scourge. I guess it’s true that people have to hit rock bottom before they can start to improve. As a person working in health care, I really wish that wasn’t the case. One thing I am grateful for today is tomorrow, brand new and fresh, with no mistakes in it. Let’s all do our best to make all the upcoming tomorrows a little better for everyone. #thanksgivinglesson #stopcovid19 #empathy #pandemic2020
