We are excited to share with you some great news for our visitors and businesses: Free Parking thru Christmas! Downtown Santa Monica and the City of Santa Monica are offering free parking starting Friday, Dec. 11 in Parking Structures 1-6 to help folks run essential errands, like visiting our Farmers’ Markets, grabbing food to-go or picking up last minute holiday gifts on Third Street Promenade. These parking structures are located on Second and Fourth streets between Broadwa...y and Wilshire. We will be waiving downtown parking fees, complimenting Citywide free curbside pickup zones that help support local businesses. Buying local keeps dollars in Santa Monica’s economy. For every $10 spent at a Santa Monica business, as much as $7 stays in the community through payroll and taxes that are reinvested to support local schools, parks, and vital community services. The Buy Local Santa Monica program has over 1,000 businesses actively participating that employ over 3,700 Santa Monica residents and nearly half of our Buy Local businesses are owned by Santa Monica residents. Restaurants and retailers throughout Santa Monica have implemented a number of convenient amenities during COVID-19. Local shoppers are encouraged to plan ahead, know what stores you need to visit and check ahead to see if in-store pick-up or special hours are available for persons who may be more vulnerable to COVID-19. Many Santa Monica businesses are also offering online ordering and delivery. For more information about Santa Monica shopping districts or a list of unique Santa Monica gifts, visit: buylocalsantamonica.com/gifts2020 and santamonica.com/holiday-specials. The Santa Monica Open for Business map is available at santamonica.gov/coronavirus-resources. For a list of restaurants offering takeout and delivery, please visit our Downtown Food Delivery & Pickup Guide. We continue to urge people who do visit the downtown area to wear facial coverings, maintain social distancing and only visit with those in your household. We want to thank the City for offering this benefit to our community.

Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. and the Santa Monica Pier Corporation are honoring Día de los Muertos, highlighting the traditional Mexican cultural celebration of life and death, with a larger than the after-life art installation on Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Pier. Sculptures of La Catrina, one of Día de los Muertos' most recognizable figures, by Los Angeles-based artist Ricardo Soltero will be viewable at nine locations throughout the Promenade and four locations o...n the Pier beginning Saturday, October 31 - Monday, November 2. Soltero's iconic sculptures of La Catrina range up to 14 feet in height and welcome guests to the Promenade and Pier in brightly colored traditional Mexican attire inspired by Day of the Dead traditions and Mexican icons and embroidery. La Catrina was first born out of Mexican social satire and has become a well-known figure in celebration of the holiday. A portion of this art installation is funded by the City of Santa Monica's Cultural Affairs Art of Recovery initiative, a grant program dedicated to funding projects by local artists and highlighting the important role arts and culture plays in recovery efforts as they strengthen and connect Santa Monica. DTSM and the Santa Monica Pier remain committed to ensuring the health and safety of the community, visitors, and staff. Face coverings are required when visiting the art installation on Third Street Promenade and on the Santa Monica Pier and all guests are encouraged to practice physical distancing. Each art piece will be properly spaced out to ensure there is enough room to view them safely. For more information on the new health and safety guidelines as well as details on what to expect when visiting the Third Street Promenade or the Santa Monica Pier, please visit downtownsm.com and santamonicapier.org.
