February is Black History Month. Over the course of the month, we will highlight our own Dignity Health employees, physicians, and medical students and their experiences and contributions to our organization and communities. Embracing diversity is a central part of our hospital’s mission and values. We are thrilled to celebrate these individuals and their acts of #humankindness. This week’s employee spotlight is on Dr. J. Bianca Roberts, Family Medicine Physician. Black history is American history, said Dr. Roberts. These are stories that haven’t been told. They aren’t in our books, they’re not a part of our regular curriculum, but they are American Stories.

What a beautiful tribute to our health care heroes! It is an honor to be able to support talented local artists like Madelyne Joan Templeton, who masterfully brought this vision to life. Thank you, Madelyne and Wide Open Walls for this incredible piece! And to our ‘essential heroes,’ thank you will never be enough but we hope this small token of our appreciation brings a smile to your face today. https://dignityhlth.org/3aOzcyR

Strokes don’t discriminate: 1 in 4 people worldwide will have one. But up to 80% of first strokes may be prevented. You can reduce your risk and improve brain function. And that’s even more important now, because some factors that put you at risk for stroke such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, smoking, and obesity increase your risk for complications from COVID-19.
