At the Digital Game Museum we use gloves to handle artifacts, but in these uncertain times we've decided to donate our supply of gloves to our local healthcare workers and first responders here in Santa Clara. Thanks to Santa Clara Police Department for the heads up and to the volunteers at the Porch Pick Up program for coordinating donations. Stay safe, Stay indoors, finish up a few games you've been meaning to, and wash your hands!
Another long-lost game prototype for Atari 2600 has just become accessible to us all! Follow the breaking news and even try "Pursuit of the Pink Panther" for yourself over at AtariAge. https://atariage.com//297125-pursuit-of-the-pink-panther-/
Our acting director Dave Beaudoin took a few pictures at California Extreme 2019. Lots of great classic arcade and pinball machines this year! https://500px.com/daswick/galleries/california-extreme-2019
If you missed California Extreme, don't worry, we've got you covered! Check out our 360-degree walk-through of the main hall. If you have a VR headset you can even experience it like you were there!
This weekend, all weekend long, come see us at California Extreme in Santa Clara CA! You think "video pinball" is a new phenomenon? We're exhibiting vintage attempts to bridge those worlds, as far back as the 1970s. Admission to the show also gets you freeplay access to hundreds of machines brought by private collectors. See http://caextreme.com/ for details.
Do you have plans for the weekend? Come join us at California Extreme 2019 and check out hundreds of arcade and pinball machines! We're going to be bringing a number of classic video pinball console games so you can compare them to their big siblings!
It's nearly time for California Extreme 2019 and we're looking for volunteers to help staff our booth. Volunteers will receive admission to the event in return for their service. If you're located in the Santa Clara area and would like to volunteer fill out this form. Space is limited so we'll be staffing on a first come, first served basis! https://forms.gle/GkeV9PK74XMwpkq57.
The Atari Video Music system is an interesting piece of video game history. It was the first commercially available audio waveform visualizer. We're lucky enough to have one in the collection! https://youtu.be/etZVnILnoSg
Our hearts go out to Brazil's National Museum over the devastating losses in the fire on September 2. A staggering number of irreplaceable artifacts and records of Brazil's history have been lost forever. Many people are lamenting that digital replicas were never made of some items. As we mourn with Brazil, we also extend gratitude to our colleagues involved in this aspect of preservation, not just in our own field but around the world; and while we reassure our own fans that we take every measure we can to ensure the safety of our own collection it's important to remember that preserving history is the responsibility of each and every one of us.
July 28 & 29, come play some uncommon games from the Digital Game Museum collection! We're exhibiting at California Extreme, the annual arcade and pinball festival in Santa Clara. Everyone's machines are on freeplay, vintage and modern, with tournaments, guest speaker sessions, and raffle prizes. More info at http://caextreme.org/ BONUS: Want to score free admission? Consider volunteering to help staff our booth! Veteran docents Dave and Sean will be there all weekend to coach you and field questions that get too deep. Arcade Blogger just published a great write up on Atari's Tipperary plant in Ireland. Those of you who have seen pictures (or remember) the South Bay factories will probably find these images pretty familiar despite the ocean separating the two buildings!
