Dear DFP Patient: Greetings from Descanso Family Practice. We hope you are doing well and continuing to practice safe distancing and hygiene practices. Here at your medical home, we have continued to see patients as needed over the last 9 weeks since the stay at home order was delivered. We have postponed what were felt to be lower priority visits such as annual physicals and even some chronic health condition follow-ups. We have instituted video Telehealth visits in cases ...where in-person examination could be avoided, and those are going well. We are treating every person in the office doctors, staff, and patients as if possibly infected, by doing symptom and temperature monitoring and full time mask wear, and thorough surface cleansing between visits. We have shifted well visits to the first half of the day, and patients with infection symptoms to the end of the day to try to keep sicker patients from mixing with well patients. We have spaced patient appointments farther apart to facilitate waiting room distancing, decreasing the number of patients in the office at any one time. Thankfully, after 2 months of community isolation practices, we are seeing hospital COVID19 admissions dropping in LA County, indicating that the hard work everyone has done to slow the pandemic has been effective. Make no mistake, the virus is alive and well among us and continued vigilance is imperative. But at this time, we feel we can safely consider a gradual reopening of our office to the kinds of visits we have been postponing. Starting Monday, May 18th, we will be able to resume seeing patients for follow-up visits for the management of chronic conditions, as well as annual health maintenance examinations. If your routine visit has been postponed in the last two months, feel free to contact us to reschedule if you haven’t already done so. It may be that a Telemedicine visit via video would be appropriate if you have camera/video computer or phone access and if we don’t need to perform a hands-on examination as part of your visit. Please continue to maintain maximum caution and carefulness in your interactions with family and friends, and especially in public places. This is not the time to relax our alertness to the risk of COVID19 infections, but we want to strike a proper balance of also pursuing optimal medical care for all of our patients. If you prefer to delay your in-office care until there is an even lower prevalence of COVID-19 in our communities, we understand! No pressure! If we contact you to schedule an appointment and you are not ready to do so, just let us know. We look forward to seeing you again when the timing is right, either in person, or on a video screen!
