Meet Keesha one of our fabulous doulas! Repost @doulakeesha Being a birth worker has changed the way I see life. As I continue to meet more families in need of support, I realize that my job is truly complete when that family is able to move forward in the birthing journey with or without me. I do not hold the power here. The power lies within each birthing body. You come from a powerful lineage of birthing bodies that are with you in spirit. Tap into your ancestry, feel th...e power and step into that shine. #birthinglives #tapin #stepintoyourpower #believethat #doulasupport #blackdoulas #losangelesdoula #pregnancy #pregnantmama #babyboy #babygirl #birther #birthisbeautiful #birthisnatural #birthispowerful #birthisamazing See more

Posted @withregram @kids.nutritionist Share this if it speaks to you! Honestly, I know a lot of comments don't mean to come off bad when others do it, but you just NEVER know what a family is going through or struggling with! Culturally it can be common (especially around babies) to make comments about a child's size. But these comments may put added stress onto families to make sure their child looks or grows a certain way, which can backfire in the long-run. Ki...ds are great representations of body diversity from BIRTH. Some grow up, some grow out, some grow both ways. Some grow quickly, some grow slowly. Growth can be a huge stressor for a lot of families. Did you know the American Academy of Pediatrics (in 2016) actually recommends to NOT talk about weight with kids? They collected research that indicated it could potentially backfire in the long-run and create an unhealthy relationship with food and their body. PMID: 27550979 Does that mean healthcare practitioners shouldn't address it if there's a concern? No. It means we (healthcare practitioners) don't need to address it with a child directly or in front of the child. It also means healthcare practitioners need to give: compassionate health behavior education for parents that doesn't focus only on the number on the scale. There's always someone in the comments who will say "BuT wHaT aBoUt hEaLtH " You can improve health without only focusing on SIZE. Such as: working on sleep, drinking water, adding variety to their diet, predictable meal routines and more. We want kids to follow their own independent growth patterns. No-one else's! This looks different for every family . For everyone else: Unless you are their healthcare practitioner, no body size comments are needed! Do body size comments about your child bug you ? See more

Gentle Parenting thank you for the reminders @southbaymommyandme #gentleparenting #palmdesertsitter #sitteragency #nannyagency #joshuatree To stop losing your ish on your kids, follow @southbaymommyandme Every time my son yells, I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.... I literally feel transported to my childhood home, where yelling was the only way any emotion was ever communicated. This is where your regulation work is your POWER. At least that's what I tell myself. (And hey, research tells us this, too!) Sure, calming myself in the moment doesn't necessarily change the fact that my son is still screaming his head off, But at least I'm not contributing to the issue by losing control. The most effective intervention I've found for yelling is to either model an inside voice or offer a child a scale. I whisper when I model an inside voice, and talk slowly and deliberately. It usually catches his attention, and he vibes with all that chillness I'm offering him. Using a scale from 1-5, I teach kiddos 3yrs+ how to rate their own vocal abilities. What makes the magic sink in? PRACTICE. We role play indoor and outdoor voice scenarios all the time in my house. Think of the role play like going to the gym: the more you work the muscle, the more likely you'll use it properly in times of stress. You must check out my latest webinar on Calming Tantrums if you want more guidance on how to support your kiddo's big feelings. Link in bio. What do you do when your kid yells in your home? See more

Glucola gets a bad rap but did YOU think it was that bad? It’s often described as a flat soda or melted popsicle. Did you know there’s other evidence based options for your glucose tolerance test done around 28 weeks? @hatchgal #glucosetest #gestationaldiabetes #evidencebasedbirth #informedpregnancy #pregnancy

Newborn Sleep newborns sleep on average (meaning some more, some less!) 14-17 hours in a 24 hour period. It’s normal for them to have their days and nights mixed up. Don’t be afraid to wake your sleeping newborn during the day to feed. Soon those longer stretches of sleep will be at night. Our Postpartum Doulas can be a great resource in those early months as they can guide you in healthy sleep shaping. Our Gentle Sleep Specialists after 4 months are miracle workers, helping everyone get more sleep at home! @klaudynabiel #newbornsleep #sleepshaping #postpartumdoula #newborncarespecialist #gentlesleepcoach

When we shift our thinking from running away from the contractions to embracing them labor is more productive. Avoiding the term contraction can help too. Waves, Surges, even Hugs can be used instead.
