Darla’s Freedom Day in review. Through her eyes. She walked through our door with an aura of magic that I’m hoping transcends this video. Because it’s important for everyone who contributed to witness the gratitude coming straight from her heart. . Dr. Pasternak looked at her ankles and thinks that it’s an old untreated injury combined now with arthritis. They do not seem to cause her any discomfort but we’re ready with both Eastern and Western meds if necessary. He also to...ok a senior blood panel which will give us more answers to her overall health tomorrow. I will add that our poor girl has a good sized scar from an old laceration that starts on the side of her mouth and goes over her nose. Darla has had her share of trauma. . Molly and Mariposa wanted to say Thank You to everyone who shared their story. Yesterday they went to a wonderful foster home... together. The truth, it’s not such an easy feat to place bonded pairs. Even sweet, gorgeous lab girls. We need to work harder and often wait longer in order to find a home for them to go to together. But truly bonded pairs, like this mother and daughter duo are worth the extra elbow grease. Because well, just look at this happiness. . On their Freed...om Ride, I looked at them at a stop light, and told them how sorry I was for their broken hearts and confusion over what had just happened to their world. I also told them that we would do everything in our power to keep them safe, healthy and loved. I promised them this next chapter was gonna be the best yet. Tonight, the Universe is making all of it come true. Grateful to the owner of one of LA’s finest pet stores - @maxwelldogstore - for stepping up for our girls. Molly and Mariposa were welcomed with beautiful new matching collars, leashes, @honestkitchen fish recipe food (great for senior bones and allergies), toys, healthy treats, comfy beds - the works. This morning’s update was that everyone slept together in the studio bedroom on the first floor which was easier on Molly... yep, thinking we just struck #FosterGold ... #FosteringSavesLives . . The girls are still currently being treated for that nasty kennel cough. They are definitely hacking a bit, but it certainly did not seem to ruin their excitement over the new digs. A candid look at love at first sight. Less than two weeks ago Suzy - now Lucy - was a very sick little potato stuck at a scary shelter. Our girls are sick. Molly’s eyes told me even before the thermometer did. She has a 103 degree fever and both she and her daughter Mariposa have a bad case of kennel cough. Every time Molly started to wheeze Mariposa tenderly checked on her. It was beyond sweet and totally heartbreaking at the same time. Their love is just so strong, especially now having gone through losing the only home they’ve ever known - and now this. Tonight they are in ISO at Dr. Pasternak’s. He’s alre...ady started the antibiotics. They may need to stay there until they are no longer contagious - UNLESS a miracle foster without other dogs steps up. Ugh. Anyone out there? We just want to get them in a home and comfy already. Super bummed about this setback. They are so sweet and so good. This is the frustrating part of rescue. . Our vet charges us $20 / night x 2 for boarding alone. $34 x 2 for antibiotics. Reaching out tonight in the event you have even $5 to spare towards tonight’s stay and meds. Aside from her current condition, she’s a healthy and spry gorgeous girl who was probably used for breeding because of that. Mariposa is 55 pounds and seven-years-old. Her personality is that of a sweet little girl whose eyes well up with so much love, trust and gratitude when she looks at you. These are the things that are so hard to communicate to the world through pics and videos. Because if anyone were to meet them in person, they’d have a wonderful home to go to. . I don’t want to be writing this. It hurts. She was the brightest light, even after her body started to fail a few days ago. Even last night she sat up in the kitchen for her nightly Oreos with foster mama @karlaspack . Sandy was Karla’s not-so-little shadow. She is so loved and she will be so missed. . When Sandy and Danny came to us in July, the shelter told us their story. They had an owner who loved them above all else. Unfortunately their owner could no longer keep them. ...On the day they were rescued, I sent him a silent little telepathic message telling him that they were safe and that we were gonna make sure they had the best rest of their lives. Well, Karla has made that promise come true. And then some. . Tonight we grieve the loss of this precious senior girl. We selfishly wanted more time, and her life had just gotten so good. But we humbly know none of it is in our control, and she was good and happy until she wasn’t. Tonight she’s on her way to find Cherry Lynne so they can cuddle up together under the waxing moonlight, right there on that star above her sweet Danny, and her beloved Karla. . I cannot explain the beauty of the creature- it’s one of those things you have to see to believe. I mean, he is stunning. On top of that, Rex is silly, smart, and confident. He is looking for a home with space to play, a family to adventure with, a person who is familiar with how to mentally stimulate a super smart boy, and of course a ...cozy bed and toys. Pretty boy Max is just a teenager. He’s potty trained and knows his basic commands. What Max (formerly Jones) needs is a home with structure, experience and no kids under the age of sixteen so that his middle-of-the-pack temperament feels safe and secure. Although he currently lives with smaller dogs, Max will do best in a home with larger, quietly confident pups - whom he does not feel like he needs to control. . Max’s eyes ask that whomever their human ends up being, they... take the lead so that he can follow. And relax. This is Beau. He’s a gorgeous ten-month-old puppy who is dog friendly and potty trained. His foster mama says that he begins his days with the zoomies and ends them with the best kisses goodnight. He is sweet, smart and so much fun. She says that he makes these cute little howls that mean he’s happy. He doesn’t bark unless he is frustrated at his senior foster brother for not wanting to play. Beau loves to sit and nap outside and prefers the floor to the many comfy beds available to him. His foster mama also mentioned that he is the most graceful creature she’s ever seen. . Beau needs a home. We are manifesting one with good humans who like to spend time outdoors as much as he does. He loves everyone he meets and would do best with kids twelve and over. . It was an emotional double Freedom Ride for us all. Mama Molly and her daughter Mariposa bid adieu to the shelter that kept them safe - the same shelter that made sure that they left TOGETHER so that they can stay TOGETHER. They were surrendered by the only family they’ve ever known. It’s heartbreakingly hard times, for all. But tomorrow is a new day, which will include a double Freedom Walk out of the shelter, into a brand new chapter. One that will be as magical as this sweet mother and daughter bonded Labrador pair. . Mom is twelve, her baby is seven, and the shelter staff have been taking wonderful care of their confused hearts. Posting them tonight with the hopes that there is a family out there who wants to offer a safe, comfy place for these two to land. Together. Fostering saves lives. She was found under a car in Koreatown so frightened, it took the good human a long while to coax her out. She then brought her to the shelter, where they scanned for a microchip and found nothing. They entered her into the system in the event she has an owner who is looking for her. She’s now safe with us and will be held on a shelter mandated stray hold for the next twenty days. .
