The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced today that The White House will be providing ASL interpreters for all daily press briefings. The ASL interpreters are in-frame and can be seen at The White House online at https://www.whitehouse.gov/live/ and White House social media accounts (Facebook, YouTube, Periscope). In September 2020, NAD with law firm Arnold & Porter, won a court order that set the stage for this. The NAD ...challenged the Trump administration's refusal to provide ASL interpreters for any COVID-19 related press briefings. In September, NAD won this case, with the court ordering the White House to provide ASL interpreters at all COVID-19 related press briefings. In November, the first ASL interpreters appeared a historic moment. There is more work to be done, but this is a great day for inclusion and access for the deaf and hard of hearing community! #inclusion #access #disability #asl #americansignlanguage #whitehouse #independentliving #aslinterpreter

This is our shot. Like anything else in medical decision, one must weigh the risk and benefits, and you should consult your doctor to confirm if you should take the vaccine. We fight back against the virus by working together. Even after receiving the vaccine, individuals should still wear a mask and practice physical distancing until the threat of infection is diminished. People with disabilities are among the most vulnerable communities to COVID-19. DCRC encourages members ...of our community to take vaccination when you are able to do so, as per the vaccine distribution rules in your area. The more resiliency we can build in our community, the sooner we can end this pandemic. Vaccines work and save lives. For more information on the Los Angeles County Vaccine Distribution, please visit this website: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov//covidvaccinedistribution/ #ThisIsOurShot #NoBodyIsDisposable #vaccine #covidvaccine #coronavirus #covid19 #health #losangeles #california #disability #disabilitycommunity #wearamask #practicephysicaldistancing #physicaldistancing #staysafe #staysafestayhome

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Intersectional, cross-disability Californians experience higher rates of domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse, the abuse takes on non-traditional forms, such as withholding assistive technology or over medicating, and there are barriers to getting help. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence in any form, reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or go online to ht...tps://www.thehotline.org//abuse-in-disability-communiti/. #NDVAM #EndViolence #DCRC #IndependentLiving

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10th every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. This year, however, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our daily lives dramatically, impacting mental health in profound ways as work and other activities have been transformed. The goal of this year’s World Mental Health Day campaign is increased investment in mental health. What more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide? Post your thoughts in the comments. #WorldHealthOrganization #IndependentLiving #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth
