A hilltop tree in a neighboring vineyard caught my eye while staying on a ranch in #pasorobles for the final days of 2020. I shot it in various ways and varying conditions throughout our visit. It was a calming thing to focus on during otherwise chaotic times.

After a couple years looking up at it from the river wash below, where I frequently hike, I took a walk to the visit the dilapidated shell of the building formerly known as The Hog Farm, the original home of the hippie collective of the same name started by Wavy Gravy, who traveled the country by bus to do things such as work security at Woodstock. Perched atop a foothill of the San Gabriels the site overlooks my Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood, with landscape views stretching s...outheast to Studio City and the Hollywood Hills and east to La Cañada Flintridge. Long abandoned, the building’s shell remains after the rest burned sometime in the recent past and the site is unfortunately littered with abandoned cars and garbage. It was still cool to visit though to enjoy the views and think about the times that must have been had here back in the day. #sunlandtujunga #hogfarm #wavygravy #landmark #losangeles #hippies #sangabrielmountains See more

Happy to announce the launch of my #Kickstarter campaign! The Birds is a 100-page photo book documenting the takeover of West Los Angeles by #birdscooters and... using quotes from the 1963 #alfredhitchcock classic of the same name to help tell the tale. Reserve your copy here! http://kck.st/2LsB3cy Project website: thebirdsthebook.com Follow along on Instagram @ https://www.instagram.com/davidzentz/ The Birds is the not quite apocalyptic account of an unusual species of flightless creatures, known as BIRDs, that take over an unsuspecting California beach community. Originally spotted in ones and twos on the sidewalks and streets, the audacious creatures recognizable by their black and white coloring and long, slender necks quickly grew in number. Soon they were on every street corner, sidewalk and back alley, sometimes in flocks of more than 20. Will the townspeople survive this onslaught, or is this the new normal? Play along! Post pics of unoccupied BIRDs in strange or funny situations using the hashtag #thebirdsareloose

An outtake from a recent shoot earlier this year with #CSUNorthridge #student and #activist Martha Robles for the @chronicleofhighered. Robles and other students and faculty were demanding that #CSU, which has 23 campuses across the state, require all students to take an #ethnicstudies course in order to graduate. It was great to see their efforts finally pay off when last month @gavinnewsom signed a bill requiring just that starting in 2024. #portrait #editorialphotography #photojournalism #californiastateuniversity #progress

These are some unpublished photos from some time I spent with Lia Navarro at @olivewoodbees late last year. I’ve been meaning to post for a while and in light of the recent news of goddamn #murderhornets figured now was a good time. As if #honeybees don’t have enough to worry about with #colonycollapsedisorder, #globalwarming, #pesticides and #varroamites, now this. Fortunately, they’re still only in Washington State, but it’s an urgent problem. The Daily from @nytimes just d...id a piece on this if interested. Anyhoo, Lia started Olivewood Bees a couple years ago after moving to rural #latunacanyon, about a 10 minute drive around the #verdugomountains from where we live. She started as a hobbyist and loved it so much she set about forming a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing bees and educating the public on their importance, such as their role in our food chain and how intelligent they are. I spent a few fun afternoons with her at her apiary as well as at a youth education program and on a bee rescue in Van Nuys, where a large hive was discovered during the renovation of a backyard studio. That was definitely the most exciting moment, as the bees were not into being rescued. We were immediately swarmed before she was able to calm them down with her smoker and safely relocate them, which involves transferring each comb into boxes and driving them to her place. The swarming was intense enough that I couldn’t shoot and had to move a hundred feet or so away before they left me alone. It got the adrenaline pumping though! If you’re interested in the topic, have bees in need of relocating or want to adopt a hive be sure to check out her page @olivewoodbees. #bees #honeybees #nature #foodsupply #honey #conservation #losangeles @ La Tuna Canyon Mountains

April showers. Killing time in quarantine on the 4th(?) straight day of rain.
