What you need to know about the recent Fed rate drop: The Fed reducing the rate yesterday is the rate at which banks lend money to each other and is tied to short term rates (credit cards, lines of credit, etc.) but not long term fixed rates (like your mortgage rate). Sometimes they follow each other but we haven’t seen a reduction in rates as of yet. Last week the rates went up almost .75% so if they come back down I expect them to go back to what rates were the first week ...of March. It's a good idea to get the process started in the meantime so when they are there in the coming weeks like we're anticipating we are prepared. The banks have a HUGE amount of loans right now - they said they received about 3 months of normal origination in 3 DAYS so they are inundated with loans. That, along with people working from home with school and business closures is going to slow things down a bit. Be patient and stay in touch with your loan officer and processor along the way!
