Hope you’re enjoying the fresh air today (FINALLY)! Let’s talk about skin health, which is especially important if you’re taking advantage of this gorgeous sunshine. Bumping up your polyphenol intake might be a good idea if you’re trying to maintain that youthful glow. Here are the facts: Polyphenols have drawn the attention of the anti-aging research community over the last decade, mainly because of their antioxidant properties and the increasing studies showing their proba...ble role in the prevention of various diseases associated with oxidative stress, such as cancer and cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Polyphenols are mostly found in fruits and plant-derived beverages such as tea, coffee, and red wine. Vegetables, chocolate and legumes are also sources of polyphenols. Some of the most studied polyphenols for skin health are shown on page 2. Some sources of these include: Green tea Grapes Dark chocolate Peanuts Milk Thistle Soy Pomegranate and berries Black beans Turmeric PMID: 22070679

Check us out in the SF Chronicle! It’s somewhat confusing to me as to why I can’t be 20 feet away from someone and instructing them how to do pushups while both of us wear masks, said Evan Mather, whose facility is about 2,000 square feet and has 18-foot ceilings. At the same time, I can get in an Uber car, go to an airport, sit in the middle seat of a plane, fly to San Diego and go shopping for expensive jeans. It’s ridiculous." It doesn’t seem like science is dictating ...these decisions. Give it a read a share to help small businesses like us survive this pandemic. https://www.sfchronicle.com//San-Francisco-fitness-centers
Running a small personal training and nutrition business is tough enough, but then when you add in a global pandemic that forces you to shut down, it becomes almost impossible. The entire fitness industry has been decimated with COVID but there is hope. Exercise and eating is a vital part of physical and mental health and it should be prioritized. Exercising directly contributes to the strength of your immunity and ability to combat and recover from illness. As one on one per...sonal services open such as barbershops, salons, massage therapy, etc., it should be recognized that there is a small space to begin one on one training training for all gyms. This will allow us as a community, big and small, to show that #gymsaresafe @yubalance @performforlife @diakadi.life @acceleratesp @triptychstrength @mx3fitness @rebalancedsf @fitness_urbano @studiomixsf @kineticplayground @luciaramirezfit @miladebadatfit @sf_iron @bodychemistrystudio

Trainer Spotlight: Jackie As a strength and conditioning coach of 5+ years, I've always viewed fitness as a powerful catalyst for boosting physical and emotional well being. This perspective has become the backbone of my training practice. My approach to fitness is positive, fun and client-centric with a creative emphasis on classic lifts and sports conditioning. Helping clients thrive through increased strength and mobility is the underlying motive for my work as a trainer. My tip for staying fit at home ... work with what you've got! There's ALWAYS a workaround, so don't let a lack of equipment be the thing that stops you from staying active and healthy :) Need some ideas? Shoot me a DM @jackielander or an email at [email protected]. I'm here to help!
Do yourself a favor and make this salad. Because it’s delicious but also because of the magic that is BEETS. Beets contain natural dietary nitrates, which have been studied extensively for their potential to improve exercise performance. You may have heard of people drinking beet juice before training or competition. This is because the dietary nitrates found in beets have been shown to significantly improve muscle efficiency and oxygen delivery to the muscles during exercis...e. This means eating beets prior to exercise could improve performance. Orange Turmeric Immune Support Juice! Let’s talk a bit about the science behind the things that make this recipe a big dose of healthy. Antioxidants This juice contains the antioxidants vitamin C and E. Antioxidants protect our bodies from oxidative damage that occurs from production of free radicals. Oxidative damage is a natural process that can be made worse by things like stress, illness and exposure to environmental pollutants. When the immune system becomes activated by... a pathogen, free radicals result and we need antioxidants to balance things out and prevent further damage. Citrus and bell peppers are fantastic sources of vitamin C and E. Beta-carotene Carrots contain beta-carotene, a carotenoid that research has shown can enhance cell-mediated immune responses, particularly in the elderly. Curcumin One of the best things you can add into your daily immune-boosting routine is curcumin. A component of turmeric, curcumin has been shown to be a powerful immunomodulatory agent. Curcumin can modulate multiple types of immune cells critical in your body’s defenses against potentially harmful pathogens. It’s also known for its beneficial effects on arthritis, allergy, asthma, atherosclerosis, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and cancer. Fresh Ginger Mostly known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, fresh ginger may also be a powerful antiviral agent.
