This thing is a little tough to snap a good photo of, but a few weeks ago I wanted to create a centralized location for some of my strange and unique ionanthas. I had a cool manzanita branch that I mounted on a sturdy base and started popping the plants in - Currently these are all dry seated - no glue or wire. So far everyone is staying in place, and I hope they’ll all root on without any performance enhancing substances (yes that’s what I’m calling glue now, which I use all the time) - It’s ionantha color season so hopefully now that I have these prominently displayed everyone will start to show a little more pizzazz (jazz hands )

Hi I’m Andy, and it’s a pleasure to meet you - -... Fun facts about me: - In high school I was in a metal band called Gorilla and the Pretty Ponies. I used to dye my hair black and only wear band shirts and skinny jeans. I was pretty cool. - I discovered tillandsias about 8 years ago when a friend gave me one as a gift. I thought receiving a plant not in a pot was some sort of joke. It was not. - As a teen, I was told in a Mexican airport that I was being banned from Mexico for 5 years for writing on my agricultural inspection form that my occupation was professional badass Living up to the self appointed name, I did in fact return to Mexico within 5 years. I was really hoping to see my face on a wanted poster in a store. It was not. - I come from a family of very hard working and talented craftspeople. I grew up learning a lot of really valuable hands on skills that I’m so incredibly grateful to have now, and it is in part was has guided me to where I am - - - That feels good enough for now. One New Years Eve I was out with my brother and some friends. I’m not much of a dancer, but my brother is. He was out in a dance circle, and my competitive sibling instincts kicked in, so I decided to play my one card; I can drop down and do the splits, Michael Jackson style - Entered the dance circle, set up my move, nailed it. With one exception. I split my pants from the crotch to the knee, wide open. This was our first stop of the evening. Am I a quitter? Heck no! So we raged in Pasadena until the wee hours of the morning, likely violating some sort of indecent exposure law - Anyways, here is a picture of something I made. Hope you have a great day!

Joannie and her team came up with a great design and I was lucky enough to partner with them on the build and install. No filter needed today for T. brachycaulos! - Many species of tillandsias change color when they bloom to attract pollinators. Several easy to care for species that change color when they bloom are: T. ionantha (all varietals change color) T. velutina... T. capitata peach T.
