Like so many other activities and holiday traditions, Halloween will be different in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Make sure to check on your community’s guidelines for Halloween and Trick-or-Treat activities. If Trick-or-Treating is allowed in your community, make sure to take steps toward a safe and healthy Halloween.... The CDC recommends: Those handing out treats should avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters. Distribute treats outdoors, when possible. Set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take. Wash your hands before handling treats. When possible, bring a small bottle of sanitizer with you. Whether you’re giving or receiving treats, wear a mask. Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you. Get creative and make your cloth mask a part of your costume. But remember, a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask! Don’t wear a costume mask over a cloth mask because it might make breathing more difficult. Adolescents, high school or college students, and young adults often have a misperception that drugs really won’t affect their health. Such an assumption couldn’t be farther from the truth. Using drugs, even just once, can negatively affect your body and your mind. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, these signs may suggest a developing problem, which youths should discuss with a trusted adult:... Hanging out with different friends Not caring about your appearance Getting worse grades in school Missing classes or skipping school Losing interest in your favorite activities Getting in trouble in school or with the law Having different eating or sleeping habits Having more problems with family members and friends Asking for help is the first important step, the NIDA says. If you have a good relationship with your parents, you should start there. If you do not have a good relationship with your parents (or if they are having some problems of their own and might need help), find an adult you trust to ask for help. The next step is to go to your physician. To learn more visit the National Institute on Drug Abuse website at https://www.drugabuse.gov/drug-topics/prevention
