OIE stands with the belief that the movement for justice must show up everywhere. The Supreme Court just made two rulings: rights for our LGBTQ community and a victory for our DACA community. There is more movement that still needs to happen but today is better than yesterday. Jewish Family Services is offering an online community conversation, titled Understanding the Supreme Court Decision On DACA: What Happens Next? on Monday, June 22 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with a panel of immigration experts and advocates. Please visit the Dream Resource Office https://www.csusm.edu/dreamer for updated information and resources. Currently, direct immigration legal services are available free of charge to CSU students, employees and loved ones. Attorneys are available to assist with general consultations, DACA applications and renewals, and more.
As we continue to celebrate national pride month we wanted to follow in the steps of @girltrek and honor Marsha P. Johnson. "She lead the fight in the streets of the Stonewall Uprisings. She, along with co-founder Sylvia Rivera, established one of the country's first safe spaces for transgender and homeless youth, Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR). She also tirelessly advocated on behalf of sex workers, prisoners, and people with HIV/AIDS. Marsha’s work was powerful We know just like Marsha you are powerful. If you are apart of our campus committee please note we have resources for you through @csusm.pride and visit our Beyond the Stereotype Campaign focused on sexual orientation and gender diversity. Link in bio.
The color green is a symbol of hope, youth and growth. These are the feelings we seek to hold onto. During this time of tragedy, OIE believes it is important to check in on the people around us, spend time with loved ones, spend time away from social media, delve into the arts, reconnect with what is important or interrupt tragedy with reminding us of our collective humanity. Our office is committed to supporting you throughout this time. We want to encourage you to take re...st, let tears flow, and to let love wash over you all. For additional resources: Please contact our confidential Ombuds service by calling (760) 750-8366 #CSUSM
As we self-quarantine in an effort to flatten the curve, it is especially important that we practice self-care as well. Some helpful mindfulness practices include: * Breathing exercises, focusing on each inhale and exhale... * Eating healthy meals, savoring each bite * Meditating on a positive word (relaxation, ease or calm) or an image that makes you happy * Intentionally connecting to an old friend (electronically, of course) * Taking a bath, noticing the warm temperature and its effects on muscle tension.
