Sherry Johnson, MBA, SHRM-SCP, CAE is Field Services Director for SHRM, based in LaRue, Texas. She supports the states of California, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Sherry serves as SHRM’s staff liaison to the HR Certification Core Leadership Area; and, she is a member of the SHRM Speaker’s Bureau. Sherry has worked in the HR profession for over 20+ years with industry experience in not-for-profit community organizations, public education, and entrepreneurial experience as owner of a small business. Prior to joining SHRM as a staff member, in 2009, she served as president for her local SHRM affiliated chapter and she held a seat on the Texas SHRM State Council. Join us for our next general meeting on MONDAY, from 5PM - 6PM Our guest speaker will be Dr. Mona Zanhour who is an Assistant Professor of Human Resources here at CSULB, will be going over how COVID-19 has affected working mothers.... Now here is a bit about more Dr. Zanhour! Dr. Mona Zanhour is an assistant professor of human resources management at the College of Business at California State University. Her research focuses on understanding the intersection between the personal and the professional with an intent to create workplaces where employees are supported and can be their full selves. In particular, she is interested in studying gender issues at work, work-family conflict, work-life balance, disability and task participation, and mental health in the workplace. She has studies published in The Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation, Psychology of Sport and Exercise, and Social Behavior and Personality: An international Journal. Her recent research is focusing on the experiences of working mothers during the COVID work-from-home mandates; based on that work, she co-authored recommendations to managers in the Harvard Business Review to help companies support and retain mothers. Trivia night was a success! Throughout the meeting, there was a friendly environment that allowed members between all 3 organizations, HRMA, AIS, and SAM, to connect. Addtionally, there was a close race between SAM and AIS for the first three places. In the end, AIS members were the winners. They got the first place 3 times!... Congratulations to our two graduating board members. Earlier in the semester we asked our Executive Board members why they joined and what they hoped to get out of this organization and this is what they said. Throughout the duration of the semester, Pamela and Eunmi have gone above and beyond to accomplish these goals and have supported the organization day in and day out. Pamela served as our executive Vice President and helped drive organization goals while assisting the P...resident in maintaining good executive board morale and also overseeing the goal program. Eunmi served as Director of Marketing and assisted our Vice President of Public Relations with posts and getting the word out on events. Additionally, Eunmi produced weekly newsletters for our members, maintaining them up to date on all our opportunities! For the past 19 years, Candice Chick has devoted her life to helping students reach their full potential. Having successfully battled both cancer and dyslexia, she knows how to overcome the most daunting of challenges with a relentless drive and mindset that’s always looking toward the future. Candice fostered her passion for others while growing up in Southern California, before going on to compete on an elite NCAA Division I Water Polo team at CSULB. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, she earned a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, Counseling, and Sports Management. As the liaison/coordinator/ombudsman for the campus community, Candice is working with a team of peer mentors, faculty, staff, administration and organizations to develop various positive approaches to actively engage preventively and with current issues that beset the CSULB community from a mental health and wellness perspective. Better Together Initiative! This year CSULB HRMA launched a collaboration initiative with other colleges' Human Resource Management chapters. The purpose of this collaboration is to bring HR organizations together from around the country to allow HR students more opportunities to learn, grow, and prepare for a career after graduation. While the initiative was originally set as a way for schools in Southern cal to stay connected, the #BetterTogether initiative has now expa...nded into four states!
