Project Rebound's Founder and Executive Director Dr. Brady Heiner and Program Director Romarilyn Ralston joined the Ethicist’s Corner podcast to discuss mass in...carceration and the work of Project Rebound. This podcast is hosted by Michael Burroughs, Ph.D. Dr. Burroughs serves as Director of the Kegley Institute of Ethics and Associate Professor of Philosophy at California State University, Bakersfield. Check out what Project Rebound's Program Director Romarilyn Ralston had to say about this topic. "I think people forget, when they think about incarcerated people, that we’re human beings. We come from communities. We come from families. We are someone’s loved one. People care about us, and once we become incarcerated, people don’t stop caring about us. Many people who are incarcerated have college degrees, have owned businesses, have been leaders in their churches and mosques. The idea of who’s incarcerated is the problem, because it’s a stereotype. When folks think about who’s incarcerated and who’s deserving of resources and access to higher education and housing, they picture some kind of trope that’s been manufactured through cinema and media as some monster, some derelict, someone that’s lurking in the bushes. That’s been, I think, a large part of the problem with folks realizing that incarcerated people return to their communities. 98%of those incarcerated return to the community. How do we want them to return? This is why we need to invest more in education and less in incarceration". This podcast is now live on Spotify Apple Podcasts SoundCloud and iHeartRadio. Many of you already know that Dr. Howat plays in a rock band with another CSUF Professor (Jon Bruschke) and three CSUF alumni. They have just released their first ever EP. If you or someone you know enjoys a bit of progressive/classic/dad rock, please check it out and/or share widely. https://open.spotify.com/album/1xx9aqdjogam6J2fRdgXFM

Thanks to our Philosophy Club for sharing! "Interested in learning about graduate school for philosophy? You're in luck! On July 27th, the APA will be holding a webinar for those interested in pursuing academic philosophy. This webinar features speakers from various diversity institutes & mentorship programs who will share their experiences of pursuing an advanced degree in philosophy. The event is open to all, but we highly encourage those who come from underrepresented back...grounds to attend. This is a good opportunity to learn about graduate school, especially since many summer diversity institutes have been canceled. If you have any questions or want to register, please visit the event page here:" https://www.apaonline.org/events/EventDetails.aspx
