Dr Markley's great uncle was killed on March 23rd, 1918 when his position was overrun on the third day of the German Spring Offensive. His body was never found. There is only one photo of him, cropped from a family group photo. AI has taken this photo and turned it into an animation. He was 2nd Lt. William Francis, 11th Battalion Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment.)

Something to confuse future archaeologists... they'll probably conclude that they are "ceremonial" objects. That's the usual go-to explanation!

Well, that was inevitable. Calls to remove statues of Augustus and Marcus Aurelius. It's true that they were both imperialist tyrants (in the classical Greek sense of the word tyrannos = "sole ruler") and massive slave holders... https://blognonian.com//all-roads-lead-to-removal-replaci/

It's not exactly history ... or rather, it represents billions of years of history ... and it takes thousands of years for the light of some of these starts to reach us, so that means that you're actually looking back in time. https://www.syfy.com/syf/what-do-10-million-stars-look-like

The message from Dr Brown-Coronel reminded me of the Battle of Coronel, November 1st 1914. The German East Asian Squadron engaged and defeated a British force off the coast of Chile. The Germans were on an epic voyage to try to get home from China where they had been stationed prior to the outbreak of war. They never made it. British forces intercepted them in the south Atlantic, and got their revenge for the defeat at Coronel. https://www.britishbattles.com/first-wor/battle-of-coronel/

Ray Ortiz, one of CSUF History's own, features in the following event. (Hat-tip to Dr Volker Janssen for bringing this to our attention.) Ray himself has this to say: "Greetings all! In recognizing #lgbtqia History Month, I will be speaking on a panel on Cal State Fullerton's Titan Table Talk. The discussion will be LGBTQ+ History of Civic Engagement, Social Justice, and Advocacy. I invite you all to join in attendance." Check it out!
