The summary for the coming webinar on Friday at 9 AM: Early Language & Long-Term Outcomes The goal of the presentation is to consider how well Deaf Education systems are supporting deaf students' language and academic growth. The webinar will review current research addressing three questions: 1) How likely are deaf children to become fully proficient in a spoken language like English? 2) How likely are deaf children to become fully proficient in a sign language like ASL? an...d 3) How likely are deaf children to have age-level academic outcomes? The presentation includes analyses of data specific to CSD Fremont looking at the long-term effects of early language experience on academic outcomes. One of the key findings is that with early intervention, hearing parents can reliably support age-expected language skills and academic achievement in their deaf children. All webinars are provided with a recording and will be shared afterward. Spanish version- AFTC Needs YOU!
AFTC's position statement on Black Lives Matter In response to George Floyd's death and the past Black people who have lost their lives to police brutality and violence, the Association of Families, Teachers, and Counselors (AFTC) denounces and will NOT condone individual & systemic racism. CSD is committed to providing a safe space for every Black Deaf child to be uplifted as a whole individual by seeing them as who and what they are. CSD strives to recognize that teachers... and staff are equally valued, celebrated, and respected as any other contributing individuals on campus. To dismantle systemic racism, please join us in making the time and listen to our Black and Brown Deaf community. Any form of racism should NOT be condoned on the CSD campus. CSD is for everyone!
