At Ridley Defense, we care deeply about Veteran’s rights and mental health. Our client, a veteran who was dealing with PTSD was facing multiple criminal charges. At the time of meeting our Nation’s Vet, he was unable to differentiate his current reality from those realities that haunted him. After proving his eligibility into the mental health diversion program and months of advocating on his behalf, Ridley Defense was able to help him get through treatment and get all charges dismissed.

Suited up both for court in an actual suit as well as with all the PPE I can get and it was all worth it. Got another one of my clients into a mental health diversion program instead of a jail cell. It’s a day late for #MentalHealthMonday, but I couldn’t be more proud. This young man is doing fantastic now that he is properly medicated and in a full residential treatment program.

Protecting our clients during these times is our number one priority. This means keeping them out of court as much as possible. Most of our court appearances involve discussing the case with a judge or a prosecutor behind the scenes and then coming back on a future date. Getting this work done doesn’t require our client to be exposed to the courthouse, so we keep them HOME. When it’s time for something that the judge wants to see our client face to face, we suit up in protective gear and head inside the courthouse with them. But we are on the frontlines of finding and advocating for creative ways to make court appearances virtual whenever possible.

Really proud this morning! We have a client who has a compromised immune system but needed to go to court to finish his case. In San Luis Obispo, they have zoom video in every courtroom. I have been appearing through video since March. The judge needed the client present, so we got creative. I had my client on FaceTime and held the phone close enough to my zoom video camera so the judge could see him. This allowed my client to appear in court while protecting him and allo...wing him to stay home. Now I’ve heard comments about how an attorney can’t be effective via video. I guess the only way to know is to look at results. I got jail converted to electronic monitoring, and got every single term that I asked for. Client is happy, I am happy, and the judge was impressed at our creative solution to the problem! Times like these that make a huge difference for our clients. Courts are open. Prosecutors are filing cases. And Ridley Defense is working hard to protect our clients!
