CAS is sending love and unity to all those suffering now and for years prior in the face of injustice and inequality. As an organization centered around education, it is more imperative now than ever that we educate ourselves about how to support the Black community. Here are some resources to get started. While not exhaustive, our list includes books, podcasts, and films to accommodate multiple learning styles. We challenge everyone to educate themselves (and others), to take action to fight against racial injustice, to amplify Black voices, and to become better allies. Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with the Black community. With love, CAS. #blacklivesmatter #justiceforgeorgefloyd

Today we’d like to highlight 2 of more our mentors that really show what it takes to be a volunteer! Jennifer and Hector have dedicated their time and both are extremely passionate about STEM education for the next generation of scientists! They truly show the dedication and passion to better the community and we are thankful to have them volunteer for us! Jennifer is currently an officer for CAS and she has worked hard with us from the start! She is always enthusiasti...c in whatever she does and we are grateful to have her as a mentor for the students! Hector was in charge of our Physics unit and he provided a thorough presentation on the basics of Physics! He provided both an amazing powerpoint and also an interactive catapult activity! We are thankful to have both Jennifer and Hector on our team and we appreciate all that they have done to spread our organization’s mission statement! These two mentors are a true example of what it takes to be a volunteer! #forthekids UCI Campus Organizations & Volunteer Programs Associated Students UCI (ASUCI) #anteatersvolunteering @ University of California, Irvine See more

Volunteer Spotlight Today, we’d like to highlight 2 of our members, Michael Casim and Daniel Mcauley, that have been with us since the start of fall quarter and they’d like to share with us how their life has changed by volunteering! Michael is a 3rd year Software Engineering Major and here’s what he had to say! ... I initially joined CAS because when I was younger I had no desire to do anything STEM related because I didn’t see anything interesting. It was only til my second year of college when I choose my major (Software Engineering). But I had gone through at least two major changes at that point. My goal in joining CAS is to help guide the younger generation by providing them with useful information about STEM pathway and to give them memories that can they can hold on too and cherish. Unfortunately our volunteering was cut short due to COVID but volunteering at El Sol has made me appreciate my current educational situation around me. The students at El Sol did not have the best desks or the newest laptops but they had the drive to learn. Even in times like these we cannot take our education for granted and we must make do with what we have. Daniel is a third year BioChem Major and here is what he had to say! I joined cas initially as something to put as an extracurricular and connect with people in my major, but what I got instead was becoming friends with some of the most kind and generous people I've met in my time at uci. Generous not just in spirit but in giving their time as well and they've shown how impactful science can be when doing it for the right reasons. Their continued drive for excellence and community support has distinguished them as one of the best orgs at uci and I'm very glad to be a part of it. Helping out at el sol academy has been very rewarding and given me a unique view as to how important it is to spark kid’s interest in stem, along with how rowdy they can get when building catapults. We loved having Dan and Michael volunteer for us at El Sol and they really can put a smile on anyone’s face! From being key players in helping our IM team make it to the playoffs to teaching students about DNA structures, Daniel and Michael have been some our most dedicated members! Volunteering has made a big impact in how we look at our lives today and we are grateful to have this STEM volunteer opportunity! Spring Quarter Update! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Craft a Scientist has decided to suspend all activity for the rest of the academic year due to the closure of El Sol Academy and not wanting to put our member's health at risk. We want to thank everyone who has helped make this first year the best it can be! We are gra...teful for all of your support and we will be ready to get the ball rolling in the fall quarter! We wish you the best of luck for the rest of the quarter and we are looking forward to working with you all next year!
