The challenges with reopening gyms and fitness studios in Monterey County is consistently being underminded by our citizens and the fitness professionals we seek out to improve our health. Regardless of where you stand on COVID-19 and the reported numbers, we as a community are curtailing resuming life as normal by participating in activities that are currently not permissable. Weekly I have a discussion with the health department, weekly I consult with doctors and nurse... to get a pulse on the virus and it’s affect on our community and for nearly 6 months I have watched many in my profession disregard the severity of the virus and disregard the impact of a few. Maybe if you had the chance to watch your colleagues close their businesses, be mandated to shut down due to a linked case or watched a client struggle to breathe you might proceed differently. Our job as trainers is to promote health, not impede health and today that isn’t an individual action, it is community based.
