Thank you to our community for showing up to support the #SaveCoritasStudio campaign! We have a long road ahead of us, but we're excited to update that after yesterday's Cultural Heritage Commission meeting, our application for designation as a Historic-Cultural Monument is officially under review. There are some exciting developments in the campaign to save Corita's studio, and many opportunities to #GetWithTheAction this week, starting TUESDAY morning (10/13) at the LA County Board of Supervisors meeting! Tuesday morning, Supervisors Ridley-Thomas and Kuehl are bringing a motion before the Board of Supervisors in support of the historical designation of Corita's former studio. We would love for you to share your thoughts with the Board ahead of their vote. Public comment is from 9:30-10:30 am PST, but it is recommended to call in at 9am to ensure you get a spot in the queue. You can also submit a written statement. Visit corita.org/action for details on all of the upcoming actions. #SaveCoritasStudio
We still need your help to save Corita's former studio! The threat of demolition still looms large. Next week, October 15th at 10am, the Cultural Heritage Commission of the LA Department of City Planning will hold a hearing on the status of the studio. Stay tuned here and at corita.org/action for further details. In the meantime, please continue to call and write to Councilmember O'Farrell and the Los Angeles CD13 office to request that they support the nomination of Corita's... studio as a Historic-Cultural Monument. Corita Art Center is thrilled to announce the launch of our art and civic engagement partnership with The Center in Hollywood. For the month of October, we're teaming up to provide unhoused community members with art-making kits, facilitated creative activities, and the opportunity to register to vote and/or vote by mail. The Center in Hollywood is a nonprofit that ends isolation and homelessness by connecting people to the community, healthcare, and housing in every way possible. #artivism #voterregistration #vote #getwiththeaction
