When Should You Replace Your Carpets? Unlike many other consumer and household goods, carpets don’t have an expiration date. However, your carpets do give telltale signs that it might be time to consider a change. Some of these include: The carpet in your home was last updated in 1978.... Stains and odors won’t come out. The carpet shows areas of excessive wear. The carpet is discolored. Your current carpet doesn’t match the design aesthetic you’re looking for. Most carpets have an active lifespan of 5-15 years, although some are warranted up to 20 years. Factors that may influence a given carpet’s longevity include the overall quality, construction, type of carpet, location in the home and the thickness of the carpet pad beneath. Heavier-traffic areas will generally be subject to more staining, wear and tear than carpet in a bedroom, such as hallways and family rooms. If your carpets are showing any of these signs, it’s time to consider a change. Read the rest here at https://www.conklinbros.com/replace-carpets/

San Jose News... Moms help organize major benefit concert to battle rare disease - Two San Jose moms, each with a child battling the rare and debilitating kidney condition known as nephrotic syndrome, are hoping an upcoming fundraiser can help efforts to eradicate the disease. Meet Kara Jones, the mother of 18-year-old Cheech, who was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome when he was just 2, and Jennifer MacGougan, whose 12-year-old daughter Elena was also diagnosed at age 2.... Currently there is no cure for the disease. But these two moms with the assistance of the community are looking to help change that. Jones and MacGougan are helping to organize the first annual Silicon Valley Pig Jig benefiting NephCure Kidney International, an organization committed to the battle against nephrotic syndrome. The event runs 1-9 p.m. Oct. 6 at San Jose Giants Municipal Stadium in San Jose and features entertainment by Haley & Michaels, Dylan Scott, Big Daddy Rockers, Erica Sunshine Lee and Ryan Scripps. There will also a barbecue competition, numerous local artisan vendors displaying their works, a kid zone, and a beer garden featuring several local breweries. The Silicon Valley Pig Jig is taking place to bring awareness about the struggles of nephrotic syndrome while benefiting NephCure Kidney International, Jones says. Ultimately, we want to give all those kids, who fight to keep their kidneys working, hope that someday there will be a cure. Several organizations stepped up to the plate to help make the event possible, including the Valley Foundation, Enterprise Trust and Investment, Lee’s Imperial Welding, Sprig Electric, AlphaGraphics, San Jose Giants and KRTY radio. Details: $20-$150 in advance, prices will increase day of event, kids 12 and under get in free; www.siliconvalleypigjig.com. https://www.mercurynews.com//san-jose-moms-help-organize-/

Ask The Experts! The question is How often should I re-stain /refinish my oak hardwood floors? The answer is There is no set timetable to refinish. The easy answer is when your floor is looking dull and losing luster. Although the floor might be looking dull, it may not need a complete refinish. If the floor is looking a little dull and has light scratches, it might just need a simple screening instead of a complete sand and finish. Rescreening is far less expensive and not... very intrusive. https://www.conklinbros.com/re-stain-refinish-oak-hardwood/ Floor Covering Weekly
