Why do we smell the spices during Havdalah? According to the sages, each person receives an additional soul during Shabbat to help experience spiritual elevation during Shabbat. We smell the spices to comfort the soul because of the loss of that soul at the end of Shabbat.

Our Havdalah Highlight of this week is the candle! One of the reasons for lighting the candle during Havdalah is that the blessing over fire thanks God for granting us the gift of fire as a source of light and warmth.
